RUTM30 Problem!

Hello everyone! I have the following problem: I have the Teltonika RUTM30 and a Vodafone unlimited SIM card. The connection keeps dropping all the time! The router is running the latest firmware. I already tested another router and was able to use it for 10 hours without any problems. I use it for streaming, so it’s really annoying when the connection constantly disconnects.
Maybe someone who speaks German would be willing to help me set everything up properly? My English unfortunately isn’t very good, so I would use a translator
Best regards!

This is typically caused by poor signal strengths, is the RUT in a building?

Are you using the supplied antennas or one of your own?

Can you provide a screenshot of this page: Status > Network > Mobile masking out your IMSI number.

Yes, I would gladly do that, but I’m currently not at the location right now. The strange thing is that the Teltonika RUTM30 always had connection drops, while another 4G router from a different brand had absolutely no problems. And yes, I’m using all the original antennas and the internet connection is via LAN.

Best regards

The RUTM30 suffers from the same modem firmware bug as the RUTX50. Zet the connection to 4G/3G only and the connection will be stable, and wait for a update

Greetings,

Could you please clarify the current modem firmware version? You can find it under Status → System → Internal Modem.

Please also try setting the APN manually:

  1. Navigate to Network → Mobile → General
  2. Disable Auto APN
  3. Enter the APN details provided by your SIM provider

Additionally, please go to Network → Mobile → Connection and change the Preferred network type to 4G only. Does the connection become more stable afterwards?

Could you also clarify how frequently the connection drops occur?

Best Regards,
Justinas

Justinas, maybe my experience is of help to you.

In my RUTM30 with A.05 modem version, connecting to 5G(NSA) could take up to half an hour of connecting, disconnecting, searching and connecting again, especially when the signale quality was ‘fair’ or less. More than once the Operator state would say ‘Registered’ but the Data Connection State would not get to “Connected” state and no Network type of IP address was shown before the Operator and Operator state would fall back to N/A again.

In times where there was a 5G connection for a somewhat longer period of time, going to the Teltonika gui via the connected Wireguard connection would be enough to make the Rutm30 loose the connection and start the whole sequence all over. To me it seems the modem is too desperate/determined in connecting to 5G and keep connected to 5G in sub-par reception situations and could/should step back to 4G earlier and actually maintain a better reception. Also when on holiday recently in my RV across Europe, wacthing streaming television was much more reliable when i set the connection to 4G/3G only.

I can’t say if this behaviour was better with previous modem firmware because this was the first big trip in my RV with the RUTM30.

Would it help if I gave you the address where I stream with the router, so you could check whether 4G works better there? I’ll also try switching it to 4G only.

So, today I configured it at home and attached a screenshot. Unfortunately, the signal inside the apartment isn’t very good, but I hope the picture can still show a little bit and maybe help.
