RUTC50: Simultaneous AP and Client

Hi! I’m trying to set up my RUTC50 router such that it always creates an Access Point on the 5GHz radio, and simultaneously use WiFi WAN (connect to an external WiFi network for internet uplink, when it’s available: WiFi WAN example - Teltonika Networks Wiki ).

The problem is that the Access Point does not seem to start, when the external WiFi network is not available. The SSID config for the external network is in status “scanning”, and while the Access point SSID config is “active”, the network is not visible from any other device.
I already tried using “Multi AP” instead of “Client” mode for the SSID config, but that does not change the behavior.
Once the external network become available, the Access Point shows up, once the external network is unavailable again, the Access Point disappears again.

Is there a way to make the Access Point available while the “Client” or “Multi AP” configuration is inactive/scanning? Thank you!

Greetings,

I have reached out to our research and development team to consult on why this behavior occurs. Once I receive feedback from them, I will get back to you.

Greetings,

This behavior is due to a hardware limitation. The device has a single Wi-Fi chip (the Wi-Fi functionality on our devices is provided by the CPU). As a result, when the device scans for Wi-Fi networks, the Wi-Fi access point is temporarily shut down, causing connected Wi-Fi clients to disconnect.

Unfortunately, there is no way to prevent this unless using different radios (2.4GHz and 5GHz) for the AP and client would be sufficient for you.

Justinas
