Rutc50 external antenna recommendation for Cornish harbourside house

Hi all

New to this and I’ve disappeared down various holes trying to research a half decent external antenna for a rutc50 , antenna for which will be mounted on the side of a house and pointing over a harbour in Cornwall…

So far I got ‘use omnidirectional because the water will reflect signal’, and 'use directional to punch through the reflections if you can get line of sight to a transmitter (which I think I can - Fowey opposite).

5g (three) or EE I think is ok but slightly thin. 4g is good.

Would anyone please be able to steer me in the right direction?

I have one of these and it’s excellent. I used to be with EE UK but started to have issues with ipv4 failing and offline problems requiring a reboot to get reconnected. I tried a three-month Three sim and i have now bought 2 1/2yr three sim and won’t be going back to EE anytime soon.

Three and Vodafone are in bed together now and are sharing networks as far as i know and from personal experience i find it better to sign up with three and have the benefit of Vodafone as a backup if needed than the other way around.

Have you had a look at cellmapper.net and tinkered with different provider settings to find your nearest best masts whoever the provider might be?

Have a look at scancom.co.uk too. If you buy a sim here, rules are rules without warning so make sure you buy a sim with plenty of data. If you go over just a smallest amount your offline without a forewarning until your allowance is renewed at the end of the month.

Thanks for the recommendation. I did try cellmapper and I have now worked out that the green dots are not masts ! So not line of sight unfortunately . I think I am perhaps looking for the omnidirectional version of the -24 if that even exists

Thanks for the tip tip on sim cards - it sounds like three (eg smarty) is the better option in terms of service then - good to know

Not sure if being with smarty piggy backing on the three network will give you vodafone access, you’ll have to ask before you buy.

That’s quite a hike in price - nearly £1600

I might investigate something a bit more cost effective!

I do understand, Yikes that is a lot of money, but you also get what you pay for too.

It is a marine grade antenna meaning it’s best suited to the salty marine / seaside environment.

It’s a 4x4 MIMO with an 8dBi gain.

Switching to a poynting antenna in my rural location with my nearest mast being 2.6+ miles away was an expensive but very much a worthwhile spend. I now have a stable, reliable and a fast connection. Buying a preloaded SIM from Scancom will save you loads of money.

You’ll get your money back in a few short years. I’d start by buying a single month or three month sims from different network providers. Find the one that works for you best then buy a 2yr+ sim, you’ll find that doing it this way you could be spending (averaged out monthly), less than a tenner a month for high speeds and unlimited data.

i’m paying “averaged out” over the contract period just £9.18 for 400Mbs to 500Mbs.
