RUT976 SMS stops working

I have a RUT976 FW 07.19.4 where SMS sending stops working every day. It does not even respond to the SMS utilities commands. It does seem to work sending SMS when using the send SMS page. I have not seen this error on any previous RUT955/956/976, but the firmware seems to change very quickly lately.

It seems the SMS cannot be read by the modem.
After a reboot everything works OK again for another 12-24 hours.

Error log shows:
706 Tue Mar 31 18:10:38 2026 daemon.err urcd: Unable to read SMS
707 Tue Mar 31 19:21:44 2026 daemon.err urcd: Unable to read SMS
751 Wed Apr 1 19:19:40 2026 daemon.err urcd: Unable to read SMS

Let me know if there are ways to get more details about the error.

Could you please clarify the following details:

  • Did you experience the same issue with earlier firmware versions?
  • How many devices are currently affected by this issue?
  • Have you considered upgrading to the latest available firmware version?

For testing purposes, I would recommend installing the latest available (or latest stable) firmware on the device without enabling the “Keep settings” option, and then testing the SMS sending functionality again.
