RUT976 – 2TB microSD mount failure (7.19.4) and boot instability (7.21)

I’ve been unable to mount a 2TB SDXC card in the RUT976. Customer support directed me to post about it here. Here is the behavior I’ve experienced:

In Firmware version 7.21:

I tried inserting 2TB, 1TB, and 8GB SD cards. In each case, the RUT976 would not boot. When the cards were removed, the unit still wouldn’t boot. All the lights flashed continuously, and the unit was unreachable when pinged. After a hard reboot, the unit began to flash. After the reset button was released, the unit flashed faster. While the unit was flashing, it was reachable, but requests timed out. After about 20 minutes, the flashing stopped, and the unit was responsive. This occurred with exFAT and ext4 formatted cards, with the cards full, with light data, or empty. After a clean boot without a card, I tried to do a hot insert. The card wasn’t recognized.

In firmware version 7.19.4:

The unit will boot with a 2TB card, but the card will not be mounted. 1TB and 8GB cards were mounted properly and showed the path in the admin tool. When I hot-replaced the unmounted 2TB card with an 8GB card, the unit rebooted. I’m told this shouldn’t happen. After reboot, it recognized the 8GB card. This occurred with exFAT file systems. I didn’t test ext4 with 7.19.4. The 2TB cards tested were: SanDisk Extreme 2TB microSDXC (A2, U3, V30), and SanDisk Extreme Pro 2TB microSDXC (A2, U3, V30). The 1TB card that mounted was SanDisk Extreme Plus 1TB microSDXC (A2, U3, V30).

If anyone has a solution, I’ll be grateful. I bought the 976 in large part because it supports 2TB microSDs.

Thank you. Here is the latest information: I reloaded 7.21. There are no longer boot issues. However, 2TB disks fail to mount. 1TB disks do mount. I was using exFAT formatted disks.

Hello,

To avoid leaking this information, we have sent you a form to fill out, which you will receive in your e-mail inbox that you have registered your account with in the forums. In the Ticket ID field of the form, please enter the ID of this thread, which is 18017.

Thank you,

I have filled out the form and will send you whatever you need. This morning I tried to boot the router (I’m not using it now) to download the logs, and, once again, it wouldn’t boot. There is no SD card in the router. It was last used when I tested booting with 1 TB and 2 TB cards after upgrading to 7.21. I then shut it down until this morning. I powered it up, and all router LEDs have been on for 15 minutes without booting. After three hard resets it was able to boot. I then downloaded troubleshooting, log, and kernel files. As an FYI, i tried to get into the bootloader menu and the request timed out. When i looked at the logs, for some reason access was blocked. Also, the dates on the logs seem wrong.

Greetings, @jtrelin ,

I hope this message finds you well,

I can confirm that we received the files that you provided and we are still under investigation of this issue. I will inform you once I have an update from the R&D team.
