Hello, on my RUT956 I’ve used a Telekom DE 4G SIM-Card in slot 1 for a very long time. Today I tried to add a Vodafone DE card in slot 2. After switching to card 2 as default I’ve added the Vodafone APN: „web. vodafone. de” and the router shows “connected” and “data connection: connected”. Everything is in the “working” state.
If I now try to open the internet with my mobile device, there is no internet connection. If I switch back to SIM1, everything works fine.
Any ideas about this? On another device the Vodafone card works fine.
While you are using SIM2, could you please log in to the router via CLI (instructions available here) and execute the ping 8.8.8.8 command? Please let me know if pings successful or not. This will help us determine whether the router is receiving internet from this SIM card and if the issue is specific to the phone, or if the router itself is not getting internet.
It didn’t worked, but I’ve solved the problem. The WAN settings under “advanced settings” showed 5 on the “gateway metrics”. I changed it to 1 and now it’s working. Why is it per default on 5? Didn’t get it.
Regarding gateway metrics, the number you see corresponds to the order of your interfaces under WAN interfaces. For example, in your case, the WAN interface with a gateway metric of 5 was in the 5th position. By changing it to 1, you gave it the highest priority, meaning the device will now attempt to connect through this network first.
It should not be possible to assign the same metric value to two interfaces. If you attempt to set identical metrics, you should receive a pop-up window with the following message:
You can configure the mob1s2a1 interface with a metric of 1 and the mob1s1a1 interface with a metric of 2. In this configuration, your router will prioritize SIM2 if it is available and active; otherwise, it will automatically use data from SIM1.
