RUT955 Mesh Configuration

Hi, I’m trying to configure a Mesh net using a couple of RUT955 updated to firmware 07.06.14 version. I’ve followed the guide in the Wiki but I came across in several issue to figure out the configuration. The main issue is how to handle the release of Ip addresses from Mesh gateway to Mesh Node. About the configuration in the Wiki, it suggest to use the following configuration:

  • Mesh Gateway, assign a static Ip address to the Lan Interface and use as a Physical interface of the Wireless AP and the Mesh configuration.
  • Mesh Node, assign a DHCP mode to the Lan Interface (but this option doesn’t exit) and use the same other configuration of the Gateway.

I can’t undestand how I need to use the Lan interface to handle the IP address of the Mesh Network, especially if I have to use the wireless net and as a wan the mobile network.

Thank in advance.

All the best
John

DHCP mode used to be there in the LAN interface, but I am not sure why they’ve removed it. In the mesh config you are doing, DHCP is just to ensure that there will be no duplicated IP address in the LAN network for each nodes. Overall, you can stick to static, and assigned unique IP for each nodes in the mesh.

LAN interface is used for IP addressing for the devices that will be connected to each nodes to have access to the outside network (WAN). Since there’s an option to forward mesh peer traffic, meaning all traffic (whatever the source node is), by the time it reaches the Mesh Gateway, it will only get NATed once.

This way you can avoid multiple NAT - which beats the purpose of creating a mesh network.
