RUT955 FW 00.07.06.14 Wrong WIFI0 Status in Overview

In widget “Failover Priority” of menu Status>Overview and in table “Failover/load balancing interfaces” of menu Network>Failover the status of WIFI0 is “Offline” which is definitely wrong. I have connected a mobile to RUT955 and RUT955 itself to my wireless home network and have access to internet. This has been working already!!
Nearly every firmware update brings a new surprise with this firmware. One gets really tired with this product. Everything else but “Professional networking equipment”.

By this occasion:
1)
Widget “Failover Priority” of menu Status>Overview still does not show metric as configured (already posted months ago).
2)
Menu Network>Wireless>Radio, listbox “Transmit Power” still does not show values correctly (already posted months ago).
Who cares for this firmware? Who is responsible for the roll out? This is a night mare!!

Hi GuentherGredy,

Welcome back to Teltonika Networks Community!

These features were not initially planned, but we will consider them for future firmware releases.

As seen in the screenshot below, transmit power is listed from 5% to 100%.

Let me know if this helps.

Regards,

Hello Janmiguel, thanks for your answer.

  1. Why do you not comment the wrong status “Offline” of the WIFI interface? This is my main point, it should show “Standby” and it already worked in previous firmware versions.
  2. Concerning widget “Failover Priority” I have to say that in my opinion it is not a feature but it is a bug. I have posted it on 22.01.2024!! An issue said to be discussed and improved.
  3. Concerning list box “Transmit Power” you didn’t get the point. You can refer to my issue from 30.01.2024. I got a reply from your colleague Marijus, who reported the error to R&D and told me that Teltonika will resolve it promptly and will keep me informed. The issue has been closed automatically but nothing happened so far. This is an untrustworthy behaviour.
  4. Concerning wrong “WiFi MAC address” also nothing has happened. I posted the error on 22.02.2024. I didn’t even get an answer, instead the issue again has been closed automatically.
  5. Refer to my summary posted at 28.03.2024. No answer, but an automatically close. Nothing happened until now.

Teltonika does not solve problems by automatically closing them after a few days. I have posted my comment at 23.11.2023.
Since January 2022 Teltonika has released more than 20 firmware versions for RUTOS. Do you think that shows high quality for industrial environment?

Do you think that this issue will be closed automatically?
Do you think that this issue and all the others will be solved?

Hi,

I have configured Failover with Sim1 as Primary and Wi-Fi as Back Up (Standby). If Wi-Fi is the primary, is it showing online in your device?

I have tested it and found out that it is a bug in the WebUI. But checking from CLI, it is saving what is selected. Let me inform our development team once again and I’ll inform you if any changes will be made.

Have you tried to factory reset the device? Usually, incorrect Wi-Fi MAC address is related to corrupted settings in the device. This might be resolved with our RMA procedure (if warranty is valid).

Regards,

Hello Janmiguel, it is a great honor for you that you are dealing with the case in such detail.

After all the many firmware versions and the associated tests, factory resets and reconfigurations, I don’t really want to go into it any further; it is Teltonika’s job to ensure the professional quality of its products; I have become tired of the product.

I also don’t know whether our efforts will suddenly come to an end with the case being closed automatically. But okay, I’ll come back to the issue of the WIFI status in connection with the incorrect MAC address.

Regarding the error with the “Transmit Power” list box, I can only hope that it will finally be eliminated in the next firmware version.

Regarding the error with the wireless MAC address, it should be said that it has changed again. Starting from the original delivery state of the device with 00:1E:42, the MAC was changed to 06:1E:42; then there was a change to 02:1E:42, and now back to 06:1E:42. The MAC address displayed on the WebUI is still 00:1E:42; only this is an officially assigned MAC address for Teltonika. I am not aware that the RUT955 works with MAC masquerade; if so, where can you configure it, like with a mobile, for example.

My home network is configured with a MAC filter for security reasons. I had set this to the already faulty MAC 02:1E:42. The new change now meant that the RUT955 could no longer log into my home network. This in turn led to the “OFFLINE” status, which I have reported here.

So we both wasted a lot of time because Teltonika’s tinkering with the MAC address in Teltonika’s release management was not recorded in the change log for the third time and also does not correspond to the actual physical MAC address. What’s the point of that?

I find it more than questionable that the MAC address of a device, i.e. a constant, is changed in the background. Correcting the error is of course desirable. But the fact that in both cases not a word is said about it in the change log or the release notes under known bugs is simply unprofessional!

Imagine a customer with several dozen RUT955s in his secure IoT network and all of these devices suddenly fail! That’s a nice present and anything but professional!

The RUT955 is in phase out; I hope that Teltonika has not diverted too many resources to be able to continue to provide support and development.

Based on the experiences I have had with the firmware since the introduction of the 7.x versions, I will stay away from Teltonika devices when updating to 5G.

Many thanks anyway and best regards

Guenther
