Hi,
I have a RUT951 where i have set up a wifi access point and a sim card for internet connection. This works great.
As soon as I add a second SSID in client mode and let it connect to my phones hotspot ( with good internet) the internet connection for the access point becomes very unstable.
If however I remove the access point and just have the wireless work in client mode than the internet works great via the hotspot.
Is this a limitation of the RUT951 and would for example a RUTM11 with dual band wifi work better?
Kind regards,
Xander
Good afternoon,
The instability you experience on the RUT951 when running an access point and simultaneously connecting a second SSID in client mode to your phone’s hotspot is likely related to hardware and Wi-Fi radio limitations of the RUT951. This model supports single-band Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n) and has one Wi-Fi radio that handles both access point and client functions, which can cause interference and performance degradation when both modes are active simultaneously on the same band.
In contrast, the Teltonika RUTM11 features dual-band Wi-Fi (802.11ac, Wi-Fi 5) with separate radios for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. This allows it to run an access point on one band and a client connection on the other without interference, resulting in more stable and higher throughput connections. The RUTM11 also supports advanced features like MU-MIMO, mesh, and fast roaming, which improve wireless performance and reliability in complex scenarios.
Additionally, the RUTM11 has more powerful hardware (dual-core CPU, more RAM), dual SIM slots for failover, and Gigabit Ethernet ports, all contributing to better overall network performance and stability.
