RUT950 - WiFi available but not working, SIM card has signal

Hi there,

I’m new to all this and am just trying to use a RUT950 router for home use.

I have a data SIM inserted and it is receiving 4 bars of signal, recognised the network, etc, all looks good but crucially, the internet does not work.

The info below is from my admin view on the web UI:

• Profile in use:
• defaultFW ver.: RUT9XX_R_00.06.06.1• Router uptime: 0d 1h 2m 32s (since 2024-12-26, 17:57:11)
• Local device time: 2024-12-26, 18:59:43
• Memory usage:

  • RAM: 25% used
  • FLASH: 16% used
    • Firmware version: RUT9XX_R_00.06.06.1
    • Mobile: -67 dBm
    • Data connection: 0d 0h 40m 21s (since 2024-12-26, 18:19:22)
    • State: Registered (home); vodafone UK; 4G (LTE)
    • SIM card slot in use: SIM 1 (Ready)
    • Bytes received/sent: 1.3 MB / 4.6 MB
    • Wireless: ON
    • SSID: [REDACTED] (AP)
    • Mode: 1- AP; 1 CH (2.412 GHz)
    • WAN: Wired
    • IP address: N/A
    • WAN failover status: Failover link is enabled
    • Local Network:

I have also logged in to the CLI and run the ping 8.8.8.8 command, which returned the following:
PING 8.8.8.8 (8.8.8.8): 56 data bytes

ping: sendto: Network is unreachable

I have tried changing the IP address and incrementing by .1 so it now ends in 1.2, not .1.1 that is default, as per another suggestion.

Otherwise, this is all getting very frustrating.

Thanks in advance for your help.

PS I’ve also run ifconfig on CLI - here’s the output:

Teltonika RUT9XX 2014 - 2019

The firmware of your router is ancient.
Can you upgrade your router to firmware version 06.09.5 from here:

RUT950 Firmware Downloads - Teltonika Networks Wiki

Make sure that “Keep Settings” is UNticked.

Then see if your problem is solved.

Thanks for this. I actually tried to download the latest firmware yesterday but it was giving me strange errors (wouldn’t let me download it from server then, when trying to download and upload, it said that the latest firmware was effectively “too old”, which was very strange). Will try again shortly. Thanks for the suggestion

Ps thinking about it, I might need to gradually step through older versions of firmware, that could do it, too. Will update once tried👍🏻

The RUT950 has some legacy variants whereby on certain hardware varients, you will not be able to upgrade beyond a certain level of firmware. All this info should be on the Wiki, most probably the page TeWe pointed you to.

thanks for this - it is just a bit confusing as it says things like “the firmware you are trying to use is older than the current firmware”, when it certainly doesn’t look to be (e.g. I tried to installing the latest firmware, but the error in the screenshot below was shown - I suppose it’s just the incorrect error message showing), but yes, thanks for the suggestions, will have a look

So I got the latest version of the firmware installed by doing it incrementally (had to install the legacy version first, then the latest, it worked first time).

I now have the new Web UI but still the same data connection issue.

I saw you said in another post to try putting a bit of tape to help the SIM with positioning as it’s not an industrial SIM but that doesn’t seem to have worked, either, unfortunately.

For the record, my latest firmware is:

Current firmware information

  • Firmware version

RUT9_R_00.07.06.16

  • Firmware build date

2024-09-05 08:39:44

  • Internal modem firmware version

EC25ECGAR06A04M1G_01.004.01.004

  • Kernel version

5.4.259

I’ve got the firmware but still the same issue. Have tried multiple other things (Toggling auto apn on/off, adjusting the SIM card in the slot slightly, putting tape on the back, rebooting, no joy).

Any other suggestions? Thanks

Okay.
I lost a bit of track now - so what’s exactly the remaining issue?
WiFi is okay and data connection looks okay but still no internet for wireless clients?

I assume you DID reset to factory defaults?
Can you make sure you’re on IPv4 only and Auto APN?

thanks for this - I tried to do it but have not had a full try. Will get back ASAP! Your help is much appreciated. Thanks

Hello @funkyhoover,

Could you please let us know if your issue has been resolved, or if you still need assistance?

Best regards,

hi there @TeWe thanks for this but I seem to have those options already set, as per the screenshot below.

I have done a factory reset previously, too.

Now, my issue is data disconnected - only once have I got the data to connect, but I have signal as I can use the data sim perfectly on my phone or TP Link router. is it possible there is an issue with the physical connection points in the SIM card inside the router? I can’t see any other explanation. I am putting the SIM in with contact points face up, it’s registering but data connection is always disconnected (there’s lots of data on the SIM!)

thanks

ps this might be useful

I still keep getting ‘disconnected’ when I insert a SIM card, although the SIM card is registered. I only got the SIM to connect once, as shown in the screenshot earlier.

Hello,

Could you please take a screenshot of the Status → Network → Mobile page and attach it here?

Additionally, please try using a different SIM card in your RUT950 and let me know if the issue persists.

Best regards,
