RUT950 problem with recovery

Hello,

I have RUT950 thats stop working.

First step try to reset via reset button (12,13,14 sec) without success

So I try to restore via bootloader via reset button (4 sec).

Upload firmware and wait 30 minutes without any success

Firmware that was tried:

RUT9XX_R_00.06.08.5_WEBUI.bin

RUT9XX_R_00.06.09.5_WEBUI.bin

RUT9XX_R_00.03.832_WEBUI.bin

RUT9XX_R_00.05.03.4_WEBUI.bin

RUT9XX_R_00.06.02.2_WEBUI.bin

Dhcp from router working. WiFi not working. Router not recive ip on WAN interface.

All LEDs working

info about router:

Model: RUT950 HG12C0

Serial: 00535046

IMEI: 861107031548481

Possible maybe bootloader was broken

Greetings, @Sasha ,

Welcome to the Teltonika Community.

To better understand the issue and provide accurate guidance, I would appreciate a few clarifications:

  • After attempting the restore via the bootloader menu, were all LEDs blinking rapidly at the same time?
  • Were you able to access the bootloader menu and successfully upload the firmware image? Or instead, did the device boot normally and display the standard login page (admin / password)?
  • Regarding the WiFi issue, is the wireless network not visible at all, or can you connect to it but without internet access?

As a next step, I recommend re-flashing the latest firmware through the bootloader menu to ensure the device is running a clean and stable image. You can download the most recent firmware for the RUT950 here:

Detailed, step-by-step recovery instructions using the bootloader menu are available here:

Once you confirm the behavior you are seeing, I’ll be able to advise you further.

Kind regards,
V.

Hello Vilius,
For full clarity, I will try the process again and describe it here.

I connected the laptop and the router (LAN port) with an Ethernet cable.

I pressed and held the reset button, powered the device on, and kept holding it for 4 seconds.

On the laptop, I configured an IP address from the 192.168.1.0/24 network and opened http 192.168.1.1
in the browser.

I got the recovery page:

FIRMWARE UPDATE
You are going to update firmware on the device.
Please, choose file from your local hard drive and click Update firmware button.

I downloaded the firmware RUT9XX_R_00.06.09.5_WEBUI.bin (since my problematic Teltonika version is RUT950 HG12C0, this is the latest firmware) from:
/view/RUT950_Firmware_Downloads

Until uploading the firmware, the LAN LEDs were blinking rapidly, about 3–4 times per second, and the GSM LEDs were off.

I selected the firmware file and started the update (or rather, recovery).

At the same time, I ran ping 192.168.1.1 -t for visual diagnostics.

After starting the firmware update, I saw:

Your file was successfully uploaded! Update is in progress and you should wait for automatic reset of the device.
Update time depends on image size and may take up to a few minutes. You can close this page.

During the update, the LEDs blinked slightly slower for about 3 seconds and then returned to fast blinking.
After that, the router rebooted.

After booting, the LAN LED and GSM LED are blinking (green/red).
There is no standard login page.
I cannot access the router.

An SSH session can be established, but default credentials do not work:
root/admin01, admin/admin01

This was an attempt to recover the firmware.

Regarding the bootloader update attempt:
The page opens: http 192.168.1.1/uboot.html

I do not have a bootloader image.

I honestly spent an hour trying to find where to download it.
The instructions here:
/view/RUT950_Device_Recovery_Options#Bootloader_menu

say that the bootloader can be downloaded here:
/view/RUT950_Firmware_Downloads

Unfortunately, I could not find it.
Could I please ask for a direct link to the bootloader image?

Greetings,

I hope this message finds you well.

Could you please clarify if there is a specific reason for using a legacy firmware? Did you experience any issues with the latest version, RUT9_R_00.07.06.20_WEBUI.bin?

Regarding the bootloader image, we do not provide direct download links for this file. It is intended only to update the bootloader itself and not the main firmware of the device.

If installing the latest firmware via the bootloader menu does not resolve the issue, for further troubleshooting we will require more sensitive information from your side, such as the troubleshoot file. This file may contain passwords, public IP addresses, serial numbers, and other sensitive data. To safely provide this information, we have sent you a form that you will receive in the e-mail registered to your forum account. In the Ticket ID field of the form, please enter the ID of this thread: 17860.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Best regards,
V.

Greetings,

I hope this message finds you well too.

I tried installing the latest firmware, but without success.

UPDATE FAILED
Error: Incorrect checksum.

I believe the main reason may be related to the following notes:

FW version RUT9_R_00.07.0X contains many major updates, some of which made certain functionalities of RUT950 no longer available. The full list of features removed since FW version RUT9XX_R_00.06.09.5 can be found here.

FW version RUT9_R_00.07.00 and above is not supported on legacy-design devices (RUT950 *G1**).

As I mentioned earlier, my device hardware revision is HG12C0.

Greetings,

Thank you for your message.
