RUT361 factory reset and firmware recovery still keeps unknown password

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased around 100 pcs of Teltonika RUT361 routers from an auction after the previous company owner went bankrupt.

The devices appear to be brand new and unused based on:

  • original Teltonika packaging

  • DHL shipping labels from Teltonika to the original customer

  • factory sealed condition

However, I cannot log in to the routers because the admin password is unknown.

There are no visible sticker or paper on the packaging that show the default password apart from WiFi password.

What I already tried:

  • factory reset using reset button (multiple timings: 12 sec, 20 sec, 30 sec)

  • login using default credentials:

    • admin/admin01

    • blank password

  • recovery mode firmware flashing via bootloader page at 192.168.1.1

  • reflashed latest official RUT361 WEBUI firmware successfully

Recovery mode works correctly and firmware upgrade completes successfully, but after reboot the router still requests an unknown password.

SSH is also enabled, but credentials are still rejected.

Firmware version:
RUT361_R_00.07.06.71

Router information:

  • Model: RUT361

  • Serial: 6003107156

  • Batch :015

My questions:

  1. Is there a protected configuration partition that survives firmware recovery?

  2. Is there any OEM/operator provisioning lock on some devices?

  3. Is there an official method to fully erase overlay/config partitions?

  4. Can the original default password be recovered using serial number or IMEI?

  5. Has anyone recovered these devices successfully through UART/failsafe mode?

I can access the recovery page and I am also preparing UART serial access if needed.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Jie
