RUT361: deactivate ethernet port for power saving

Hi all,
I bought a RUT361 to be used as 4G router on my boat, providing internet access and a central WLAN AP for the on-board equipment, as well as for the crew.
There is absolutely no need for wired ethernet connections in my setup, so I would like to physically deactivate the ethernet PHYs to save power. Deactivating on the web interface is not sufficient, a Ethernet link is still being set up.
Is there a way to physically deactivate the ports, e.g. by configuring the ethernet switch IC?

Thanks for helping,
Norbert

Good afternoon,

In your instance, you can switch off ports in port settings in our WEBUI.

You can also, while using WIFI, create another wireless network, , and switch off br-lan interface. (instructions How to set up a guest WiFi network - Teltonika Networks Wiki) As you are using ETH, and the ethernet cable will not be connected.

I do need to note, that even after these steps, the port will still be using some electricity via that port.

Arturas

Dear Arturas, thank you for the quick answer.
As I wrote in the original post, deactivating from web interface is not sufficient to deactivate the physical interface, as an ethernet link is still being set up when plugged in.

I already separated LAN and WLAN and deactivated LAN and WAN in the web interface. I just would like to also shut down the physical interface to save another few mA.

Is there no command that can be sent to the MAC to deactivate the PHYs?

Thanks again,
Norbert

Hi there,

As a last resort, you can physically cut or disconnect the Ethernet PHY power.
However we do not recommend that as it will void the device’s warranty.

You may be able to achieve such functionality with a custom script, however we cannot advise on that particular resolution.

Thank you for understanding.

Arturas
