RUT241 showing offline in RMS, but online in webUI

I can’t manage an RUT241 via RMS (it is showing offline), but other than that the router seems to be working. Devices behind it are visible from the internet, and I can connect to the webUI via a VPN. The webUI is showing the RMS service is online (management state:enabled , connection state:Connected).

this is what i see in the RMS system :

I had the same problem last week and remotely rebooted the router and it came back online in RMS, but then went offline again a couple of days later. Obviously, I’d rather not have to schedule to router to reboot every couple of days.

I have read in similar posts instructions to Unregister the router and Register it again, but I am concerned I will lose the management packages that are currently assigned to the router if I do that.

thanks,
Josh

Hello,

Thank you for your message.

Rest assured, you will not lose any management packs assigned to your company when you unregister and re-register the device. You can safely proceed with the process.

After re-registering, you may need to go to the router’s WebUI and, under Services → RMS or System → Setup Wizard → RMS, click on Connect.

Let me know if you need any further assistance or have additional questions.

Best regards,

Ok…
well I unregistered the device, ssh’d to a machine behind it and used the Web UI to reconnect as you described. When I hit “connect” the router seemed to go offline. I lost contact with it and with anything beyond it.
Now I don’t have it in RMS and I can’t contact it or anything else on its network.

It’s 1000km away. Please don’t say I have to get on a plane.

Hello,

Could you please confirm if you have enough RMS credits and that the necessary services are enabled?

Since you don’t have physical access to the device, here are a few steps you can take:

  1. If you are able to connect via SSH, try restarting the RMS service by logging into the router’s CLI and executing the following command:
    /etc/init.d/rms_mqtt restart
  2. If that doesn’t work, you can try restarting the RMS service using SMS commands. Send the following SMS messages to the router:
  • <password> rms_off
  • <password> rms_on
  • <password> rms_connect
After that, check the status with:
  • <password> rms_status
  1. Additionally, you can try rebooting the router with:
  • <password> reboot
And if necessary, factory reset it with:
  • <password> restore

Let me know if this helps or if you need further assistance.

Best regards,

No it’s showing that I have 0 packs remaining and 2100mb of data remaining. As I mentioned in my first message, this router has been assigned a ten year management pack, but when it was unregistered the management pack seems to have gone with it.

I’m unable to connect via ssh, since this is a mobile device with a dynamic IP address and without RMS or some other kind of remote management there’s no way for me to know the address to attempt to connect to.

I was able to connect to the router before, even when it showed up as being disconnected from RMS, because it was set up to be in a VPN and I could connect to it via that. Since unregistering the router it doesn’t seem to be connecting to the VPN either.

Anybody there? I’m still locked out of the machine and it’s become quite critical, and I’m literally going to have to get on a plane if there isn’t any other way.

I’m guessing there isn’t anything else to do, since the machine is uncontactable. A simple reboot probably won’t work, because there is a heartbeat monitor behind this router that would have been power cycling the router every 15 minutes if it couldn’t ping the internet. And I know that the network behind it can’t access the internet because there are machines behind the router that will be attempting to connect to servers, and I have no logs of them connecting. So it looks like an expensive and time consuming trip is the only solution.

I’m not very impressed.

Hello,

I sincerely apologize for the delayed response and for the inconvenience you’re facing. It’s unusual that after re-registering the device, it has lost its managing pack.

Could you please confirm if the managing package was indeed assigned to this specific device? If so, I recommend reaching out to us directly through this contact page: Teltonika Networks Contact.

Additionally, if the previous suggestion of restarting the RMS service with the provided commands didn’t help, you might try purchasing an additional 1 RMS credit and assigning it to your RUT241 device. Once assigned, restart the RMS service. RMS credits and packs can be purchased here: RMS Credits & Packs.

Once again, I apologize for the difficulties you’re experiencing and thank you for your patience.

Best regards,
