RUT241 modem fails to send SMS after a while

Hi,
I have a RUT241 used for sending SMS through the HTTP API.

The issue is that after a couple of months it has stopped working. The issue persist even with a system reboot. When testing sending a SMS using the mobile utilities web page, the UI hangs followed with a “Failed to send message”.

I’ve got the same issue during the first installation but I resolved setting the connection to 3G/2G/Auto (without the 4G).

I’ve tried to update the firmware to the latest version but nothing has changed.
I’ve also tried to set VoLTE to On and Off without any success.
Using SSH I’ve tried the command gsmctl -D -S -s "<phone_number> TestMessage"
The result is:

GSMCTL modem[0]: Debug mode enabled
GSMCTL Modem id: 0
GSMCTL modem[0]: Calling Send SMS
GSMCTL modem[0] SMS: Checking input format
GSMCTL modem[0] SMS: Calling LGSM SEND SMS
[gsmctl_send_sms:22] error: ERROR: Failed to parse response

Hello,

Apologies for a delayed response. Could you confirm whether the initial issue is still present with the latest 7.13.3 firmware installed?

If so, please check the following:

  • Ensure the SIM card plan is active and allows SMS sending.
  • Verify that mobile antennas are properly connected and that the signal strength is optimal.
  • Try sending an SMS using the SIM in another device or, if possible, test SMS sending with a different SIM in the RUT241.
  • For testing purposes, try replacing the “+” symbol in the phone number with “0”.

If the issue persists, we will need to troubleshoot this further. To proceed, the form to submit was sent to your email (used for registering on forum) inbox. Please complete the form using 12701 as the ticket ID. Once submitted, our team will contact you to investigate the issue in more depth.

Best regards,

I’m not sure, but this could also be an indication of a problem we have encountered: In our case, the RUT241 does not respond to SMS after a few days (e.g. status). However, when I connect to the router and check the log, the SMS has been received. However, after each login the router sends SMS again! I don’t know if any process is unblocked like this? In our case, the device is supposed to send SMS messages when an event occurs, so if this stops working after a few days, it will be a problem…
Firmware is RUT2M_R_00.07.13.4

Hi there, i’,m running into a very similar issue but with the TRB140, i’ve tried sim cards from 2 carriers and even tested a replacement TRB140
