RUT241 is not recognizing Layer2 Packets, VXLAN useless

Hi guys,

I ran now in a huge issue:

I connect a RUT 241 with a RUTX08 over RMS OpenVPN, so far so fine.
Both are capable of VX LAN, this is also working (i can get ARP table from the other site through the local LAN Network).

Now i want to reach a Layer 2 device behind RUT241s LAN through the RUTX08. No chance, no Layer2 packets from RUT241 are reported or transferred. (Wireshark shows that i send successful L2 packets but no response from RUT241)

If I change the direction, my PC plugs into RUT241 and the Layer2 device in RUTX08s LAN it is working!

With a RUTX09 and RUTX08 it doesn’t matter and works brilliant both directions.

I can only imagine, that the RUT241 with its single LAN Port is missing something in recognizing L2 packages?? But this shouldnt happen while using vxlan

Any idea?

I mean, with this behavior VXLAN is nearly useless on a RUT241 because this device is mostly used on the remote access site!

EDIT: If I add a a stupid ubiquiti Flex Mini between RUT241 LAN and my L2 device, it is working…..

For me it looks like, someone forgot to implement L2 capablility to RUT241 for a useful function with VXLAN or am I missing some other Settings / Package?

Hello,

Just to confirm, is masquerading (under Network → Firewall → Zones settings) enabled on the LAN zone of your RUT241?

If the issue still persists, to assist and troubleshoot it effectively, we’ll need to continue this process privately, as sensitive and non-publicly shareable information (such as the troubleshoot file, public IP addresses, and serial numbers) will need to be gathered.
