RUT241 extreme Data consumption

Hello everyone,

since 20. January 2026 until today, this RUT241 consumed 2.5GB Data on a Multiromaing SIM for data coming from compute.amazonaws.com.

I have read on another topic for a different Teltonika device that this traffic is for opkg or Fota or RMS?

Is this for RUT241 the same problem?

Atm i disabled the SIM for this one device (after E-Mail alert that Data exceeded 2.5GB this month) and i hope that the other 21 devices wont start with the same problem, because data on those Multiroaming SIM’s for machine analysis isnt that cheap.

AmazonAWS will most likely be the RMS service - if RMS isn’t something that you use, I suggest heading to WebUI → Services → Cloud Solutions → RMS and disabling the RMS service altogether.

Alternatively, if you do use RMS, then the data usage could be due to active VPN setups or monitoring being enabled.

we have 21 RUT 240/241 and those are getting continually more, 12 of them are used as modem only with other VPN hardware.

For the other 9 we have paid RMS for 5 years and the 150GB VPN package, so it would be nice to use RMS.

We have 3 on firmware 00.07.11.1, one of those shows that problem

Another 6 on firmware 00.07.16.3, all without this problem.

Is there any other way to fix this problem?

In this case, please try to upgrade the firmware, as it is pretty old, and could cause issues, judging by the fact that devices with newer firmware versions do not have the issue.

If you are using VPNs as you mentioned, then data usage is expected and is bound to happen, it also depends on the actions you do (watch movies, send tons of data, etc.)

just for the information that most of this data usage came from AWS, In/Outgoing traffic on LAN is blocked, theres only one static lease allowed to talk outside, this device is actually disabled and the traffic from AWS didnt stop.

The VPN is not in use and the history shows <1 MB the last 10 days.

With 20 January the extreme data usage started.

I will try to update the device and hope the data usage will stop.
