Hi All, I currently have an RUT241 where I can’t access the internet when connected wired to the WAN/LAN port. I configured the WAN port as LAN. Mobile status shows connected, and when connected to the RUT241 via WiFi internet can be accessed. Can anyone tell me what I did wrong? I already tried resetting to factory defaults, but this didn’t solve the problem.
Although our ports are configurable LAN/WAN ports, it can only act either as LAN or WAN at a time. So if you configured WAN as LAN, it will not be able to get internet access via Wired WAN. Revert it to WAN port. It should get an IP and internet access.
Thanks for your reply. I forgot to mention that I have an SIM-card inserted which should provide the internet connection. So when i connect wireless to the router, I can access the internet. When i connect wired to the LAN port, I can’t access the internet. I do get an IP address from the DHCP server.
I found out that when i turn off Auto APN and set it fixed, I can access the internet also when connected wired. What i don’t understand is the relation between the APN settings and not being able to access the internet when connected wired, but being able to access the internet being connected wireless. Maybe someone can shine a light on this?
Hi @Laurens,
I only have two RUT241s until now, the other 60+ are the older RUT240s.
Which firmware are you running?
I’m running the quite old but very stable RUT2M_R_00.07.04.5.
In Network->Interfaces->General I have the following:
in mob1s1a1 my APN is set to Custom, but that’s only
because I have static IP on this specific router
in WAN->Physical Settings the interface is set to “-- No interface --”
in WAN6->Physical Settings the interface is also set to “-- No interface --”
in LAN->Physical Settings the interface is set to both “eth0.1” and “eth0.2”
and in Network->Failover all interfaces are turned OFF.
On the LAN port there is an IP cam plugged in, and the WAN port (which of course
is just a secondary LAN port) is used by our service technicians when they plug in
a NAS or their laptop computer to make a backup of the data on the camera.
I’ve never encountered a correlation between the correct function of the WAN
port as the second LAN port and the APN settings, be they Auto-APN, fixed or
custom.
