RUT241 cannot connect to RMS

Hi all,

I have 3 RUT241 routers one of which is brand new and two of which are maybe 1 or 2 years old. The brand new one I am able to connect to the RMS service but both of the 2 old ones both show the same error.

They keep on showing ‘Connecting…’

Sometimes a short moment ‘Down’ will be shown in the status but after that it tries to reconnect and goes back to ‘Connecting…’

I have put both of the routers back to factory setting multiple times and also removed them as a device from the RMS portal and added them again but nothing changes.

All 3 of my RUT241 routers are running the most recent “RUT2M_R_00.07.14.2” firmware

I also made a backup of the working router and uploaded them to the 2 non working routers but nothing changes.

I checked de system logs and I found the error below:

471 Sat May 10 17:27:14 2025 daemon.err rms_mqtt[9716]: [handle_mosquitto:184] error: Reached max initial connection attempts (5), exiting
472 Sat May 10 17:27:14 2025 daemon.err rms_mqtt[9716]: [handle_mosquitto:188] error: Error connecting with mosquitto: Network unreachable
473 Sat May 10 17:27:14 2025 daemon.err rms_mqtt[9716]: [main:151] error: Failed to initiate mosquitto loop

What does this mean?

All other functionallity works as expected except the RMS service. Both routers also have a functioning 4G connection to the internet.

What can be the problem?

Good afternoon,

Here are a few steps that may help in your situation :
Try rebooting the router or manually restarting the RMS service via SSH with:

/etc/init.d/rms_mqtt restart

or send SMS commands to toggle RMS off/on/connect:

rms_off
rms_on
rms_connect

Double check whether Service, monitoring is enabled. Whether the devices have Resources (credits, management pack) assigned.

Try to re-add the devices, while using the details from cloud solutions in WEBUI.

Please also try to perform a bootloader reset on the device. This unique feature allows you to perform firmware update and reflash the device, which can potentially resolve the issue. Instructions on how to do so : RUT241 Device Recovery Options - Teltonika Networks Wiki
