RUT241 and RUT240 router coverage

Hi guys,
We intend to set up the RUT241 or RUT240 router on the field and then connect to several IoT devices (assume 6~10 IoT units will be connected and in the outdoor condition).
Therefore, I want to know about the router coverage and that’s said if this device works in the 60ft radius so it could let me more clearly to know how to place the router at the right place.
Please advise the coverage and let us know what the best practice of it.
thanks,

Hello,

Firstly, I assume you are refering to WiFi coverage. If so, 60ft should be fine. The WiFi range for RUT (not RUTX) devices can be found here.

Secondly, make sure you protect the RUT from the outside environment because the device is not designed to be issue in the outdoor in environment. RUT2 has an IP rating of 30, so I would recommend using some kind of an enclosure (poynting antenna with enclosure for improved signal as well if needed? Link here).

Kind Regards,

Hello,
Thanks for the feedback and we have used an enclosure made of polyvinyl or plastic (no metal material has been confirmed) to protect the RUT router in outdoor condition.
Guess this should not impact the range of the WiFi range as well.

Meantime, could you provide any of the RSSI acceptable data of the RUT241 and RUT240 could let us reference?
A little concern about the RX signal strength of the device even if we put the hardware in outdoors but still have the change on some weak signal spot areas.

thanks,

Hi guys,
Is any info could shared with us?
thanks,

Hello,

Unfortunately, we do not have such documentation. However, general Wi-Fi signal strength recommendations, such as those found here, should be applicable. If you have concerns regarding WiFi signal strength:

  • Consider upgrading your antenna for improved reception.
  • Explore alternative devices like the RUT360 or RUTX. The RUT360 supports WiFi 4 (b/g/n) and features two WiFi antennas, enabling 2x2 MIMO for enhanced coverage. RUTX on the other hand, in addition to having two WiFi antennas, also offers support for WiFi 5 (b/g/n/ac).

We do, however, have recommendations for mobile signal. These recommendations can be found here.

Hi guys,
One more follow-up question, does Teltonika have provide the outdoor router inside with the RUT241 or RUT240?
thanks.

Hello,

I am not sure if I understood your question correctly, but Teltonika Networks currently does not have any routers designed to be used outdoors.

Kind Regards,

Hi guys,
I do understand the RUT241 did not have the IP protection for outdoor but after finding this website then wonder is Teltonika has provided any kind of enclosure inside with the RUT241 and is available to place outdoors?
Perhaps the 3rd party or any of the design info could shared with us?

Our original in-house design is a waterproof enclosure but takes us too much time in the fab process.
Therefore, we are looking for any of the products that are available for outdoor solutions so any info is welcome.

Hello,

Teltonika doesn’t provide enclosures. You’ll need to find third-party options. For the RUT240 dimensions, you can refer here. Alternatively, Poynting offers antennas with enclosures specifically for the RUT240 here. You can explore other options and their compatibilities on their site.

Kind Regards,
