RUT241 4G eSim, mobile data limit reached, still operating

Hi everyone,

I’m using a Teltonika RUT241 router with a 4G connection. I set a mobile data limit of 3 GB in the WebUI, expecting the router to stop the connection once the limit is reached. However, the connection continues even after exceeding the limit. It’s 3,7 GB and still downloading.

Here’s what I’ve checked:

  • The limit is correctly set under Network → Mobile → Limits.

  • Period is set to Daily.

  • There is no Action option (like “Disable Interface”) in my firmware version.

  • The router only seems to monitor usage and send warnings, not enforce the limit. Both the System Summary page and the WAN status page show the limit reached in red, but the connection still works.

Questions:

  • Is this normal behavior for RUT241?

  • Does any firmware version support automatic disconnection after reaching the limit?

  • Is there a workaround (e.g., script or configuration) to disable the mobile interface when the limit is hit?

Any advice or experience would be appreciated! Thank you!

Best regards, Viktor

Hello,

Could you please let me know which firmware version is currently installed on your RUT241?

Best regards,

Hello,

My firmware is RUT2M_R_00.07.17.5.

Unfortunately, the hotspot service is not working as expected either. It shows my mobile phone as logged in and active, even though the landing page does not even load on it. (MAC identification). Of course, there is no internet connection on my mobile phone. :frowning:

Thank you.

Viktor

Greetings Viktor,

Thank you for your message.

Since you mentioned issues with the hotspot service, you can also set data limits for hotspot user groups. Could you confirm if any user groups are configured? By default, there are no limits — you can either create a new group with specific limits or edit the existing one.

More details are available here:

Regarding the landing page, please clarify your current configuration. By default, it should use the standard theme allowing users to log in. Have you tried accessing it from another device? If possible, please share any error messages you see when attempting to open it.

Looking forward to your reply.

Kind regards,
V.
