RUT240 modem fails to send SMS after a while

Hi,

I have a RUT240 used for sending SMS through the HTTP API.

The issue is that after a while it stops working. It’s impossible to send new SMS without rebooting the router. When testing sending a SMS using the mobile utilities web page, the UI hangs followed with a “Failed to send message”:

Capture d’écran du 2024-05-24 13-47-00
Capture d’écran du 2024-05-24 13-47-50

The versions are:

  • Firmware: RUT2_R_00.07.06.10
  • Internal modem firmware: EC25ECGAR06A04M1G_01.004.01.004

Does anyone have an idea of why this occurs?

Hi,

If possible, could you access your device via SSH/CLI after the SMS fails to send and copy the output of logread (the bottom 20-30 lines should be sufficient)? This would help us understand the issue better.

Best regards,

I have rebooted the RUT but this time I still can’t get SMS to send… logread doesn’t show new lines after the SMS fails. The only lines mentioning GSM are from after reboot:

Hello,

Is there a possibility that your SIm card is mobile data only?

Kind regards,

We have already successfully sent SMS with this exact SIM card and router

I tested sending a new SMS using the mobile utilities web page. It was successful this time. I really don’t understand why this error occurs… This is very problematic since the SMS are used as alarm notification.

Can you upgrade your router to version 07.06.11 and see if it brings back the desired stability?

Done

But sending SMS is not working once again…

The status seems ok though:

Since I only want to send SMS and don’t want data, is there a simpler config ? Here is the current one:

Can you turn VoLTE off and set Network Type to 3G only for testing purposes?
APN is for sure okay?

Setting 3G only makes sending SMS fail straight away.

APN is set to Auto but seems fine

Can you paste a screenshot of

I have exactly the same issue with my RUTX11, with the latest firmware 07.07.1 or previously with 07.06.3. It seems to have occurred after a restart.
However, for me, switching to 3G works. Is there an issue with Free’s 4G network? I don’t have the possibility to test another operator at the moment. Yet, on a smartphone in the same location, SMS works perfectly.

Hi,

Your mobile signal seems to be weak, which might be causing messages to fail to send. Your data connection appears to be completely disconnected as well. Have you properly attached the antennas or tried moving to a different location where the signal is stronger?

Best regards,

I’ve disabled data because I only want to send SMS. The antennas are properly attached and I haven’t tried moving the router to a different location, no (installed on a client’s site). Is the signal really that weak for only sending SMS?

Hello,

It seems like the signal is quite weak. You could try moving the router to a different area, preferably closer to a window or a more open space, and then check if you’re able to send SMS messages.

Best regards,

It’s already close to a window:

Also how could this explain that rebooting the router solved the issue in the past?

Hello,

Could you provide troubleshoot file, as it would greatly help to inspect this issue. Since it contains private information, we’ll handle it on a separate platform. Instructions for accessing it have been sent to the email you registered for this forum.
