RUT240 Help with Setup

I have an RUT240 I noticed you can connect to PLC’s remotely after watching the You tube Promo, i have tried and there are a few problems. I dont have a fixed IP from my GSM chip, each time it restarts i get a new IP address. I assumed maybe wrongly that the VPN was provided, Is this the case.

Does anyone have a good set up document for this service? if i need to use an external VPN or not?

The PLC controls a remote Heating system not commercial, and im away a fair bit.

Any help at all thanks

Hi…
Do you have a dynamic public ip at your sim card?
Can you use no-ip.org to access your device?

i do have a dynamic IP, it will change on restart or reboot…

At this point i am not able to get onto my device, i had assumed me setting up the VPN on the RUT240 was it, it did register it and was ok but nothing, i have to say im a little lost on this one…I guess i have to setup an external VPN for it to run through.

Sorry i should be clearer, i can get onto the device via the 192.168.1.1 that works and i can get to the setup page for the RUT240…

Okay…

As I wrote… at WAN/GMS CARD, buth having public ip address. You can try to configure dyndns/no-ip to have a host/domain to access your device by wan.

LAN
OKay… you have the standard 192.168.1.1 user admin pass admin01. (The default password for this old device)

Firmware…
Try to check about update for your device.

Hej Buttsy,
I think what you did is setting up the teltonika-RMS (Remote Management Service). As far as I know this service is (only? @teltonika: please clarify if I’m wrong) intended to manage the device itself, so you can manage your fleet of devices in one place.
We are using the RUT240/241-devices among others in combination with an independant openVPN-service-provider and turn of the teltonika-RMS, as we prefer sharing responsabilities. You can even setup multiple openVPN-client-configurations in one device for redundancy of service-providers.
Best regards,
Axel

@Buttsy Hello,

I assume you are referring to RMS VPN Hubs . If so, your device’s IP address (whether public or private, or if it changes) should not matter, as long as it can reach RMS.

Could you provide more details about the specific issue you’re facing? What exactly are you trying to do, and what part is failing? If possible, please share screenshots of your configuration and any error messages.

@axel,

The RMS Management section (on the left side of RMS) is used for managing Teltonika Networks devices. RMS Connect allows access to other devices connected to your Teltonika Networks device. RMS VPN Hubs enable network creation, allowing you to access not only the RUT device but also its entire network via VPN (you can specify which networks should be reachable via that specific router).

You can find more details about RMS in our wiki: RMS Wiki.

Kind Regards,

Hello. I am experiencing the same issue. I can access the RUT240 via the RMS page and within the RMS, I can set up Remote Access to access my PLC controller’s webpage. However, I cannot connect to the RUT240 or PLC directly via their IP addresses.

I have tried setting up a VPN using OpenVPN, but I still cannot connect.

I have also tried setting up a route via ZeroTier, but still no luck. ZeroTier support suggested setting up a forward in the router between the ZeroTier IP and controller IP, but I am unable to figure out how to do this.

Also, when I log into RMS, the “RMS Connect” section only gives me the options “Remove access” and “Access history” It does not have “Remote desktop” “Remote SSH” or “Remote HTTP(S)”

@thill Hello,

Without more details, it’s difficult to determine why your VPN was not working.

For RMS VPN Hub, following the setup steps in the video should be sufficient for proper configuration. If you are experiencing issues, please provide more details so we can assist you better.

The same applies to your attempt with ZeroTier - additional information would help in troubleshooting.

Regarding RMS Connect, it is still functional. You can access it by navigating to Remote Access and creating a new instance/configuration. This allows you to select the desired protocol, such as SSH, HTTP, RDP, or others from the available options.

Kind Regards,
