RUT240 antenna choice for car

Hi all, I need some advice on whether to use my RUT240 with the stock 4dBi whips inside a car, or use the small 4G magnetic mount 1dBi antennas on the roof. Unfortunately I don’t have the time to test or get hold of more powerful antennas, since the router is going to be used for an event later this week.
Speculations more than welcome, as I’m very uncertain how much the signal is affected from being installed inside the car.

Hello,

Both options should work as long as the device and antennas aren’t hidden under the seat or in another obstructed area. However, it’s important to test everything before the big event, as you might encounter other issues beyond just the antenna.

Best regards,

Hey, thanks for your input. We have tested the setup, but the event is not nearby. Do you think I should use the 1dBi magmounts on the roof or should I use the 4dBi whips inside the car? I have many of these units, but this is new usage area for me.

Remember that in a modern car with tinted glass the glass may contain a conductive layer to shield infrared radiation. This not only shields infrared, it also shields radio waves.

Very valid point, thanks! This car is an older (2010) Rexton (Mercedes ML copy). I don’t think this one has this kind of glass, but I’ll check with the owner.
