RUT200 - unable to CLI

Good afternoon,

I’m French, retired professional and I received 2 weeks ago, a RUT200 I want to install in the mountain in order to add a security system in a tiny house.

Last week I’ve tested it “in situ” and it works fine. I just need to add a Yagi antenna to get the connectivity with better performances. Quick and easy parametrisation through the Web interface.

I’ve installed the new FW version.

and, btw, I’ve also changed the password for the admin user.

When I try to use the CLI interface (trough the Web page) System>Maintenance>CLI, using the new password I face an error message:
login : can’t change directory to ‘/user’
Session closed.

When I try a direct SSH connexion, using Termius, with password authentication, it’s also impossible to connect.

If starting “out of the box” was easy, it seems more complicated to continue when such a basic function is not working.

Do you have any idea about the reason why? Did I forget something?

Thank you.

Hello,

When logging in to the router via SSH, please use root as the username and the same password you use for the WebUI.

Please let me know if you are now able to log in.

Best regards,

Hello,
Thank you for the info.

CLI root/pswd works fine
ssh rootr/pswd also

Question : why admin can’t be connected?

Regards

Hello,

The reason you cannot log in with the admin user via SSH and must use root is due to the permission settings on device. On many Linux-based systems, including routers and other embedded devices, SSH access is often restricted to the root user for security and administrative purposes.

I hope this clarifies things!

Best regards,

Good Morning,

I understand that accessing via SSH is different than accessing via the WEB interface.
And that the [admin] account has less/more permissions than another one whatever his name and associated permissions.

I’m surprised that accessing via SSH implies to be root.. Seems risky.

The fact is that working with tiny embedded systems implies some constraints.
I will take care if it’s not possible (I’ve not tested) to add a user with less permissive rules.

Thank you for your quick answer.

Marc
