The RUT200 is NOT compliant with the IEEE 802.3af-2003 PoE standard. Its LAN1 port only supports passive PoE input at 9–30 VDC, and only on LAN1. The device is explicitly not rated for the 44–57 VDC delivered by 802.3af/at PoE injectors or switches.
Only connect the TSW040 to the RUT200 if the TSW040 is powered below 44 VDC (in which case PoE-out is disabled and it functions as a regular switch).
Otherwise, use a non-PoE Ethernet switch or ensure the TSW040 is operating in non-PoE mode.
So the TSW040 would try to force full PoE+ power to the RUT200, even though the RUT200 would not be trying to draw any power via PoE?
I was intending to plug in one or more IP cameras for home surveillance, as well as a PC in a different room. Am I right to think I would need a managed switch, rather than an unmanaged switch, to control which ports utilise the PoE capabilities, as the PC might also be damaged if connected to an 802.3at port?
I apologise if all this info is available elsewhere. I have not been able to find a definitive answer.
