RUT145 Configuration via Modbus RTU

Good evening,
I purchased a Teltonika RUT 145 router to communicate via a 485 terminal block with a Rockwell inverter and exchange information via the Modbus protocol.
I’m having a configuration problem; I can’t figure out how to configure the module.
Currently, for testing, I’ve connected the router to a weighing module that provides an RS485 Modbus RTU output.
I’ve configured the Serial Server, but I probably need to configure the Client as well? When I try to configure everything, it tells me that the “device is already enabled in the Modbus Serial Server.”
Why?
Thank you very much.

Sorry, I moved the topic to the Questions section.

Good morning,
I’m still waiting for your feedback regarding the device configuration. Can you explain further?
Thank you.

Greetings,

You’ll need to disable the Modbus Serial Server before enabling the Modbus Serial Client, as both cannot run on the same interface at the same time.

The Modbus Server is typically used when you want to read data from the router itself.
The Modbus Client, on the other hand, allows you to read/write data from/to an external device (which would act as the server).

Do you have a remote PC or PLC that needs to talk to the inverter? You could use Modbus TCP over Serial gateway for that: Data transfer from Modbus TCP to Modbus RTU Gateway - Teltonika Networks Wiki

Could you please clarify your use case and network topology, so I could help with the exact configuration?

Best Regards,
Justinas

Good morning Justinas,
I thank you for the answer and it is exactly what I wanted, that is to query a node in 485 Modbus via remote PC to collect data or write. Configured in this mode i.e. in Modbus TCP serial gateway everything works correctly.
Thanks again!
