RUT X11 "No GPS signal"

Hello all,

I have an X11, firmware RUTX_R_00.07.06.6, modem firmware EG06ELAR04A20M4G (No update available). Wanted to use the GPS function for the first time with Traccar.

GPS is activated:

/etc/init.d/gpsd status
running
gpsctl -seix
0
1970-01-01 01:00:00
0.000000
0.000000

NMEA senteces are looking strange:

cat /dev/ttyUSB1
$GPGGA,,,,,,0,,,,,,,,*66
$GNGNS,,,,,,NNN,,,,,,*1D
$GPVTG,,T,,M,,N,,K,N*2C
$GPRMC,,V,,,,,,,,,,N*53$GPGGA,,,,,,0,,,,,,,,*66

$GPRMC,,V,,,,,,,,,,N*53
$GPGSA,A,1,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,*1E
$GNGSA,A,1,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,*00

Modem seems to work:

cat /dev/ttyUSB2

+CFUN: 1
OK
+QCSQ: "LTE",55,-88,141,-15
+QCSQ: "LTE",55,-88,121,-15
+QCSQ: "LTE",55,-88,143,-15
+QCSQ: "LTE",55,-88,133,-15
+QCSQ: "LTE",55,-88,115,-15
+QNWINFO: "FDD LTE","26201","LTE BAND 3",1300
OK

Device has been rebooted several times.

Disable GPS → reboot.
Enable GPS → reboot

Any help and hints are highly appreciated.

Best regards,

Joerg

Good morning all,

an update to the strange behaviour.

Tested yesterday early evening (approx. 1900CET) the antenna connections.

  • removed and reconnected antenna connector in campervan → no GPS signal
  • removed fixed antenna, connected external antenna → GPS fix
  • removed external antenna, reconnected antenna in campervan → GPS fix

This morning (0600 CET) I checked the GPS fix.

gpsctl -siex
1
50.707057
2024-03-12 00:18:11
6.718686

The last GPS fix was nearly eight hours old…!

/etc/init.d/gpsd status
running

/etc/init.d/gpsd restart

etc/init.d/gpsd status
running

gpsctl -siex
0
0.000000
1970-01-01 01:00:00
0.000000

Looks like it stuck.

The built-in antenna seems to be ok, otherwise there would be no GPS fix for nearly 3hrs.

Any ideas…?

This behaviour seems really odd.

Regards,

Joerg

Update 2

A factory reset did (hopefully permanently) the job. Restoring the old config from file didn’t change the behaviour: a GPS fix is shown on the map with an actual time stamp.

Joerg
