Should we use Mass production FW for production environment ?

Thanks !

Hello,

The most recent firmware update brings many improvements, changes, bug fixes, and introduces new features. While these changes and additions are aimed at improving device functionality, it’s important to acknowledge that they can also potentially introduce new unforseen issues. Since you plan to deploy these devices in a production environment, I recommend following a cautious approach.

First, I would recommend using the latest firmware version, which is currently v7.05. However, before implementing it in your production environment, it’s a best practice to conduct testing in a controlled environment. This pre-production testing will help you identify and mitigate any unforeseen issues or compatibility concerns that may arise.

In the event that you encounter problems during testing, or if you come across a situation where you suspect a firmware-related bug or other issues, you can consider reverting to an older firmware version. Then, you will be able to see if the older version performs more reliably in your specific use case.

Kind Regards,

Ok ive tested the new software and i seem to have a problem with Serial Over IP

With firmware 7.4.5 my setup is working fine.

If i upgrade to 7.5.0 it don’t work anymore

So ive reverted back to 7.4.5 and everything is working fine.

Any feedback about problem with serial over ip with the firmware 7.5.0 ?

Thanks !

Hello,

No issues have been reported regarding the Serial Over IP functionality in v7.05 so far.

If you can, would you be able to provide your configurations please?

Is it possible that the issue isn’t related to the service itself, but rather, for instance, that you were unable to connect to the device through the specific port configured for Serial Over IP?

Also, did you update to the latest with ‘keep settings’ option enabled or was it a clean install?

Yes how can i send it to you ?

No because i roll back to 7.4.5 and then everything is working fine

Keep Settings - Don’t want to do all the configuration again and again on all firewall when upgrading…

Thanks !

Do you offer support remotly ?

Because ive configure 5 firewall for Serial over ip with a SIM Card for the internet access and ive got 2 that work and 3 that don’t work

ive build the first one, tested it and export configuration and import it into the other firewall.

1 of the 4 firewall is working

The original firewall is working also

They are all on firmware 7.4.5

If i take one of the firewall that is working and im bringing it to the other site everything is working fine.

So why the others are not working as they have the same configuration import

Im in Canada and it’s hard to have support as you seem to answer questions only when im sleeping

Thanks !

Hello,

It seems like the issues is either with configurations, or their migrations. But I cannot say for sure because I am not aware of what is configured on your devices.

The firmware difference between v7.04 and v7.05 is quite substantial. It is possible that there were issues when you were migrating your configurations. Would it be possible for you to update one device that has issues to v7.05, reset it to defaults, and reconfigure it? You can always apply a backup later on if needed.

Let me know about the results, and if possible, provide details on your Serial Over IP settings and any relevant configuration changes like firewall settings. Ensure that you redact any sensitive information, such as public IP addresses and serial numbers, before sharing your configurations.

Since this is a public forum, there is no way for us to exchange information privately. If you wish, you can share your information here. The same limitation applies to remote support. It’s not possible due to the public nature of this forum. To arrange private communication or remote sessions, you’ll need to reach out to your designated sales manager or the reseller from whom you purchased the device. This is the only way to facilitate private communication.

Kind Regards,

So far.

Same problem here with serial over IP, it works downgrading the router to 7.4.5, tested on:

955+7.4.5 → Ok
955+7.5 → error
956+7.4.5 → untested (I’m already tired of new errors for each new version)
956+7.5 → error

Edit:
956+7.4.5 → Ok, it works as expected.

@support_ti, you’re completely right.

Hello,

Could both of you please share more details about the issues you are facing with Serial Over IP? What are your use cases? To what devices are you connecting and how?

I have tested the Serial over IP using version 7.05 with the RUT955, and everything worked smoothly. I was able to send and receive data to and from the serial device through a public IP address without any issues, using both HW VSP3 and Hercules software.

Remember to reset your device to its factory settings once you have completed the upgrade. This ensures that any old configurations that might be causing issues are cleared out.

Kind Regards,

I’m using a RUT956/5, firmare 7.5 and port TCP 502. I have used a 232 sniffer and the MODBUS RTU answer is incorrect, always the same modification, it isn’t random.

This same configuration works on a RUT956/5 with firmware 7.04.5, the only difference is the firmware version.

Hello,

Can you try using Hercules for example to see what data you receive?

Has the device been reset to ensure it’s using a clean configuration?

Also, it seems that the IP filter is empty in the screenshot. Could you try adding 0.0.0.0/0 for LAN interface (and for WAN as well if you are accessing the service over the WAN interface).

Kind Regards,

Ok so for your information here is what ive done. Ive upgrade firmware 7.4.5 to version 7.5 without keeping settings. Configure manually everything and now all my 5 routers are working with Serial Over IP

I have configured several RUT956 from zero and 0.0.0.0/0 must be added on firmware 7.5 on WAN interface to make work both “Serial over IP” and “Modbus TCP over Serial Gateway”

If you use an older configuration, a lot of bugs/errors/(whatever you name this) will arise and will drive you crazy.

It works now, thanks!
