As the topic title states, the cable is ridiculously sensitive; almost any tiny movement to it resets the router.
Anyone else experience this? The idea is that this is a rugged router suitable for moving vehicles… I’m just using it in my office but it doesn’t seem right.
Have you tried using a different cable? It’s likely that the issue is with the current cable, and I recommend replacing it to see if that resolves the problem.
Is the router in a place or situation whereby its being moved about on a regular basis? In a glove compartment for example where people or persons are in and out looking for this that and the other or is it being moved aside and back etc because it’s in the way?
The male plug is moving about inside the hole opening it up creating a bad connection between the two parts… bad practice and a normal consequence of the same.
Resolve the issue then make sure the router and the cables etc are secure and in a place that is inaccessible to others, secure it and the cables in a way that it, and they cannot be moved, pushed pulled etc.
Common user failure with laptops and mobile phone charging cables.
I bought this off ebay, I don’t know the past history. Seller didn’t mention this fault… But in my use its been stationary the whole time.
Hard to know if its the router itself or the cable - any suggestions as to how to determine if its the device itself rather than the cable before buying one?
Having looked at your video and afterwards had a look at my router too, it looks to me that the wobble you have may not be as bad as expected to be honest. I was very surprised to find that mine has a slight wobble too.
When you wiggled the connection, did the router switch itself on and off a few times?
Have you carefully inspected the rest of the cable / wire, does it look damaged? The plug itself, does it damaged at all?
Plugged in and switched on, try to firmly hold the plugs at each end with the wire / cable taught in a straight line. Gently but firmly pull, what happens? Does the router switch itself on and off?
You may have a broken wire inside the cable, there are several smaller wires inside the cable.
Having seen the video and had a look at mine, i would buy a new cable, it would be worthwhile i think.
Thanks for your reply and offering the reference of the amount of wobble in your own device.
I;ve taken a couple more videos you can see here. If you look on the second one which shows the cable you can see the connection point in the upper right quadrant seems to be suppressed compared to the others.
Having had a look at my power plug, it’s different, but the metalwork that does exist is all flush with the plastic and not recessed.
New Cable, given that i have a different model to you and my plug is also different, i think it’ll be important to ensure that you get a new one that is specific to your model.
