RUT 950 / NEtwork Operator automatic switch

Hi everyone
Since I join a company that is using RUT 950 (and 951), I’m looking for an option on which I don’t find a lot of coumentation / answer:

  • in the router is a multi-op SIM inserted.
  • since the operator network can vary in quality, is it possible to setup the RUT 950 (951) to automatically switch to the network operator that provides the best signal strengh ?
  • else is possible to ask him testing the 4 network, and select the best one depending , for example, on Ping time?

Note : our SIM provider explain us it is possible with model equipped with certain modem chips, but not all … (our modem in RUT 950 is an SLM MEIG ? thus it just connect to the last used operator)

Thanks in advance for your support
Regards

Hello,

since the operator network can vary in quality, is it possible to setup the RUT 950 (951) to automatically switch to the network operator that provides the best signal strengh ?

This should be done automatically, but only when the currently used operator connection is lost. It is done this way, as re-registering to another operator can take quite a while, so if the router constantly switched between operators it would create a very bad user experience. This is why the mobile phones also avoid changing operators when roaming.

else is possible to ask him testing the 4 network, and select the best one depending , for example, on Ping time?

The answer is the same as the previous question. Since it takes quite a while to switch operators, it will take a very long time to test all available carriers. It is best to simply leave the router operating on Auto mode and let it decide which operator to use. What your operator most likely referred to by saying

it is possible with model equipped with certain modem chips, but not all

Is that the router supports the multi-carrier eSIMs (M2M eSIMs). This modem does in fact support it.

Let me know if there are any further questions!

Best regards,
