I have an RUT950 router with O2 and EE sims installed.
I get an internet connection from both sims in the router using the small aerials when at my home address but I’m having problems getting internet at our caravan located 30 miles away. There is good signal strength, and I get internet when putting the sims into my phone, but when I put them in the router and connect to the wifi, it says connected but no internet access.
The caravan has a Poynting mimo aerial and providing good signal strength.
Any suggestions? I can send you a troubleshooting file.
Firstly, I would need some additional information to better understand the situation.
Are you using the same antennas at your home address, or are they different? Is this issue occurring only in specific locations, or does it occur when you move further away from your location? Additionally, could you provide a screenshot of Status → Network → Mobile from both your home location and the location where it doesn’t work? If not, please check your carrier’s coverage map to see if the coverage is weaker in that area.
I used the provided small aerials at home, and a roof mounted poynting mimo aerial at the caravan. When I go back I will try using the small aerials to see if it makes a difference. I am also getting a 12v supply for the router in the car so I can see if/where it drops out between here and there.
I don’t have a screenshot from the caravan yet but I can send you the log files to you which I downloaded yesterday. How do I send them?
How do I attach the screenshots of the two sims working here at home?
Since files you want to send contains private information, we’ll handle it on a separate platform. Instructions for accessing it have been sent to the email you registered for this forum.
After reviewing your troubleshooting file, I didn’t detect any major issues with signal strength or other readings; everything seems good. However, I did notice a problem with the “mob1s2a1_4” WAN interface showing up in the logs as a nonexistent device, but the router still tries to establish connection through it. This issue seems to intermittently reset the connection. It’s possible that this interface was configured for failover or other settings in the past.
My recommendation would be to disable this interface and stick with the default ones, as it appears to be causing trouble according to the logs. It’s unclear why it might work in your home location. Could you please send the troubleshooting file from your home location so we can compare how this interface interacts there?
I’ve reviewed both troubleshooting files and noticed that at your home location, you’re using 2 SIM cards. It appears that they are frequently disconnecting from one and reconnecting to another.
In other distant areas, it seems you only have one card, with no backup available as at home. That’s why experience disconnections. At the home location, you had another SIM to fallback, and in the other location, you didn’t.
Next time, I suggest turning off all failover options and testing devices with a single card at both locations with both cards respectively. I highly likely that at least one of the cards has bad coverage at a remote destination.
