RUT 901 Factory reset required after site power outage

A RUT901 was installed on a poultry site to connect the data loggers for the site’s photovoltaic system to the on-line monitoring portals. The site runs the on-site backup generator once a week to be sure that the generator remains functional. This entails cutting the supply to the PV inverters and the monitoring equipment including the RUT901. When the supply is restored, the router is unreachable and requires a factory reset to get it working again. The router is connected to a 5 port Netgear switch into which a Solar-Log PV monitor and three individual Solis inverters are connected via Ethernet. A previous RUT200, which only had the Solar-Log connected to it, ran for six years without issue. I was wondering if anybody else had seen similar behaviour, why it might occur, and what might resolve the problem. It seems likely that a possible cause is the addition of the three Solis inverters but that doesn’t explain why the problem is occurring (another site has seven Solis inverters connected to one GSM router without any problems).

Hello,

Could you please specify which monitoring portals you are using and how you are accessing the router?

As I understand, you can access the router physically to perform a factory reset. Have you tried connect it via Ethernet to a PC and accessing its WebUI when the router is unreachable? If not, please give it a try and let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Hello,
The monitoring portals are Solar-Log and SolisCloud, both for monitoring PV systems.
I have tried accessing the router via a laptop/Ethernet/WebUI without any success. When checking the IP address that the PV has picked up using SoftPerfect’s Network Scanner, the IP address was set to a “junk” value (something like 192.256.34.82 so nothing like any default router IP address) and the mask set to 255.255.0.0. This was resolved by doing the physical reset of the router.
Interestingly, Solis performed a remote update of the firmware on their dataloggers and after the last power outage the router came back on as normal and the Solar-Log resumed comms with its portal. However, none of the Solis dataloggers reconnected to SolisCloud and remain offline. So, I think the issue lies with the Solis dataloggers and not with the router. It will be interesting to see if the router and Solar-Log continue working after the next power outage which will probably be tomorrow.
Thank you for your interest.
Best regards,
Steve
