Rut 241 stays offline after SIM refill

Hi everybody,

Probably a rookie mistake. My EIOTCLUB SIM bulk was exhausted for a week or so before I purchased a refill. However, the modem stays offline. Unfortunately, I did not write down the individual password of my modem so I cannot remotely access it and would prefer not to take it out of its waterproof housing just to read the password on the device. I n addition, I am currently traveling and cannot physically access the remote installation for another month. How can I get the device online again.

I would really appreciate any advice.

Sincerely, Tom

If it’s offline then you’ll have no other option than someone being physically present. As it seems to be a data only SIM, you can’t even send it a ‘reboot’ SMS.

I’d recommend sedtting up a scheduled reboot of the device, say once a week, as an aid in these sort of circumstances. I’m not saying it would help in this particular instance, but it can be very useful in some circumstances when the site is remote and little visited.

I’m unfamilier with the EIOTCLUB reseller, but did you get a new activation code with your refill? … if so, then this will give you an additional configuration step to consider.

Thanks. EIOTCLUB said they refreshed my SIM on their side and that the modem should recognize the changes and come back online after some time. However, from what you wrote this is not possible when the device is offline?

Hello, @twassmer!

Thank you for your post.

Our apologies for the late response.

Could you clarify how you are aware of the state of the device given that you do not have access to it?

Do you perhaps have the device connected to RMS, or does the SIM card have a public IP you could use to access the WebUI of the router?

If the answer to the possibilities above is no, and the device is truly offline without messaging capabilities on the SIM card, there is no way to turn the device back online without being physically present to perform a power cycle or connect to it directly.

Kind regards,
Laura.

I am or was connected through the RMS app but the WebUI menu is grayed out so I assume this is not possible.

Under WAN mobile an an ip and port is specified.

Hello, @twassmer!

Thank you for your response.

Our apologies for the late reply.

Could you please clarify what you are specifically referring to with this?

Additionally, as mentioned, since RMS appears to be offline and since the SIM card inside of the device does not have SMS functionality, the only apparent way to resolve the problem is to access the device physically.

Kind regards,
Laura.
