RS485 capable device that can have tailscale installed through the package manager

Hi,

I am looking for a solution where i need to monitor a remote device via RS485 but also need to be able to use Tailscale for remote support of install. Does a solution exist?

Yes, there’s an ideal device for this solution: the Teltonika TRB145. It supports both RS485 and Tailscale.

It looks like it has no physical ethernet port? Is there a device that does all this plus an ethernet port?

What does this mean?
“USB 1 x Virtual network interface via micro USB” Is there an accessory/adaptor that teltonika sells to enable ethernet over usb? As the other devices I will need to connect to are over ethernet.

Just and FYI we currently have multiple RUTX09 devices deployed. Is there an option/adaptor that would allow RS485 with these?

Hello,

I apologize for the delayed response. The devices that support both RS485 and Ethernet ports are: RUT906, RUT956, and the TRB2 series devices.

Regarding the statement “USB 1 x Virtual network interface via micro USB,” it means these devices can connect to the internet via a USB interface, but they do not support Ethernet adapters.

As for the RUTX09, it has a USB port which, when used with a USB to RS485 adapter, can establish a serial connection. When you plug in the adapter, it should be automatically recognized and can be assigned like any other RS interface.
