I have RUTX50 on a ship sailing mainly in France. Signal strength and speed of 5G is sometimes lower than 4G, but router selects 5G anyway when available. I can set preference for “4G only” but then when the ship is moving, 5G is not used even if stronger/faster than 4G. (3G is not available anymore in most areas).
Would it be possible to set an additional preference for “Strongest Signal auto” along with the existing choices of 5G/4G/3G auto, 4G/3G auto, 4G only, 3G only?
This could be very usefull for use on moving vehicles (ship, camper van, coaches, maybe even trains…)
Greetings,
The decision to switch between 4G and 5G is made by the cellular module hardware based on 3GPP standards. So there is no such setting.
Under Network → Mobile → Connection, you can enable Low signal reconnect, this allows you to set a threshold, if your signal drops below this, the router will reset the connection and it should connect to the stronger 4G band instead of sticking to a weak 5G signal. You would need to experiment what threshold would work the best for you.
Could you please clarify what is the current modem firmware version on the device?
To do so, login to the device’s CLI: Command Line Interfaces - Teltonika Networks Wiki
And send me the output of this command: gsmctl -y

Justinas
Hello, thanks for the reply.
Will try the sollution with low signal reconnect. Activated now with setting -80 dB for 300 sec (defautl -90dB for 600 sec). Can take some time to see if this helps, depending on our position/location and movements.
Router type: RUTX50
Firmware is RUTX_R_00.07.23.7 (latest stable)
gsmctl - y result is RG501QEUAAR12A11M4G_04.202.04.202
Best regards
