I want to pole mount the ROOF SMA ANTENNA (PR1KC640) outside on my motorhome roof. Cables will be placed outside on the roof leading to the next inlet for about 50cm. The data sheet mention, that the ROOF SMA ANTENNA (PR1KC640) is IP67 (exclude cable outlet).
Do I have to seal the Antennas cable outlet specifically to avoid water ingress?
Thanks for clarification and best regards from Bavaria
If you are referring to the connection point between two cables (inlet/outlet), it is necessary to properly seal this connection to prevent oxidation, excessive noise, or distorted signal quality. A suitable solution for isolation would be to use a small heat shrink tube, which can provide a durable and weather-resistant seal.
Thank you for the clarification – it’s much clearer now how you intend to mount the antenna.
As mentioned earlier, it’s always recommended to isolate inlets/outlets to prevent water ingress and oxidation. Additionally, I would suggest:
Sealing the antenna’s bottom hole (as shown in your first picture) with a silicone hermetic sealant to protect the cable entry point from water penetration.
Protecting the cables by placing them into a corrugated pipe or using electrical tape for added durability and weather resistance, as suggested by Mike.
