Hi, I’ve noticed that the VPN HUBs options now include TAP mode, but I haven’t been able to get my setup working. My goal is to connect an external laptop to an industrial installation (with Siemens controllers that require the programmer to be on the same LAN), which connects to the internet via an RTU241. Is this scenario possible? Or does it require a more powerful router?
Best regards, and thanks in advance
Hello,
Could you please share what step are you getting stuck at exactly?
Depending on how everything is connected, even with TUN mode everything ends up being in the “same LAN” as they’re all connected to the same VPN Hub. Routes are then required in case these devices are under different subnets so everything sees everything.
Not required, RUT241 will suffice ![]()

Thanks for the reply. I’m getting stuck at the part where I create the VPN HUB — it only defines the RTU and the user accounts as clients, but they can’t ping each other.
When I say “same LAN”, I mean that protocols that use broadcast, like BACnet, should work transparently. Not just BACnet — the programming tools (TIA Portal, ABT…) also need the devices to be in the same broadcast domain in order to list them and see the network. That means they need to be on the same Layer 2 network.
