RMS VPN connection

Hello, I’ve created a VPN through RMS with three Teltonika devices: one RUTX11 and two RUTM10s, as well as a user account. I’ve also added the addresses of each router to the routes so I can access them through the VPN.

My question is (according to the diagram): why can I access all the routers from my computer if I’m connected to the internet through RUTM10-1 without connecting with the OpenVPN or Teltonika application on my computer?

If I’m connected to the internet with RUTM10-2 or RUTX11, I have to connect with the OpenVPN or Teltonika application to access the routers.

From the RMS website via WebUI, I can access all the routers while connected to the internet from any router.

I’ve compared the configuration of router rutm10-1 with that of rutm10-2, and it’s practically identical.

Greetings, @Sanka ,

Thank you for your question,

To start troubleshooting we can check some settings. On the PC (while connected to each router):

  • Check IP + gateway:
    • Windows: ipconfig /all
    • Linux/Mac: ip addr
  • Check routing table:
    • Windows: route print
    • Linux/Mac: ip route
  • Run traceroute to another router’s LAN IP:
    • Windows: tracert <router_IP>
    • Linux/Mac: traceroute <router_IP>

On each router (RUTM10-1, RUTM10-2, RUTX11):

Look at routing table:

  • ip route show - check for routes to RMS/VPN network.
  • Check OpenVPN/RMS client status - is the tunnel up, and does it show pushed routes?
  • Compare NAT/masquerade rules on LAN→VPN/tunnel.
  • Check Firewall forwarding rules from LAN → VPN.
  • Confirm different firmware versions aren’t causing different default behaviors. I would strongly recommend to use latest stable firmware version.

Please note that if you plan to share screenshots, make sure to blur or remove any personal information, such as public IP addresses, serial numbers, or MAC addresses, as this is a public forum.

Let me know how it goes,

Kind regards,
V.

Hello, I’ve checked everything you suggested and haven’t found anything wrong. However, the internet connection for devices connected to the router (RUTM10-1) started failing.

I reinstalled the router (RUTM10-1) to its factory settings two or three times, and that solved the connection problem with other routers via VPN, even without being connected. But I was still having internet problems on devices connected to the router (RUTM10-1) until I uninstalled the RMS VPN. I created a new RMS VPN, and all the problems were resolved.
