Reset admin password through SSH

I have somehow forgotten the admin password on a RUT906. However I can still SSH into the device with a previous password.

I have tried;
passwd admin
uci set system.@system[0].initial_password_set=1
uci commit system
/etc/init.d/system restart

but still the web access still does not work (It no longer states ‘incorrect password’ but does not log in).
How do I go about sorting this?

When logging in with the updated password, the login page becomes blank on refresh. An incorrect password returns the prompt.

Hello,

If you can access the CLI using your password, you should also be able to log into the WebUI with the same password without any issues.

Could you please clarify whether you receive an “Incorrect password” message or if no message appears at all?

Please try the following steps:

  1. Clear your browser cache and try again.
  2. Use incognito mode to access the WebUI.
  3. If possible, perform a factory reset on the device. This will restore the default settings, and you can log in using the default password displayed on the router’s back panel.

Let me know how it goes!

Best regards,

Hi Marija,

We were unable to resolve remotely but had to visit the location for other reasons so had the tech reinstall the firmware.

Could you please confirm whether your issue has been resolved, or do you still need assistance?

Best regards,

Resolved following firmware re-installation. Thankyou!

Thank you for confirming that!

Please feel free to reach out if you need any further assistance.

Best regards,
