Replacing Cinterion MC35i with TRB142

Hello. We are replacing our simple Cinterion MC35i 2G modes with TRB142 units. We are looking for settings to make this work. The old models were easy, connect the 9pin RS232 connector, power and antenna and go.
Any help would be appreciated. And yes, we tried to insert the sim and connect cables but no communication. LEDs indicated 4G connection.
