Problems setting up Hotspot in RUTX50

Hi there,

I’m trying to set up a Public Hotspot in my RUTX50 Router (Firmware RUTX_R_00.07.07.2) but I’m currently not successful. Here the Steps I have done:

a) set up a new Wireless SSID with no encryption and no network
b) add a user to the local user Database
c) add a new hotspot instance with different IP-Network (default 192.168.2.0/24) and enable it

I see the new SSID but when I connect I didn’t get an IP-Adress over dhcp.

I have already tried to reset the device to factory defaults and try it again. But always the same issue.

Do i have to configure anything else to get it working? I didn’t find any useful informations in the wiki.

Can you please help me with that issue?

Thank you

Hi,

I think you have to choose a network in “public ssid setting” tab. Usually LAN, else the wifi is not bridged to the LAN and so neither to the dhcp, dns and gateway.

Hi,

when I choose a network in public wifi configuration, I get an error in the hotspot instance configuration that I have to remove it. So it also doesn’t work:

Hi all,

I found out the following:

When I limit the radio in the wifi settings to 2.4 Ghz or 5 GHz, I get an IP-Address for the device and the redirect to the landing page. After Login everything works fine.

When I use both radios (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) in the wifi settings, the hotspot is not working and I didn’t get an IP-Address after connection.

Is this a known limitation or maybe a bug?

Best Regards

Hello,

This error is related to the devices that are connected to this specific Wireless SSID.
You should disconnect your phone or other devices that are connected to the router’s wireless network that you’re trying to configure the hotspot instance.
You can find detailed information from here.

We also have some configuration examples on our Wiki page. You can reach them from here and here

Please try and let me know about the result!

Hello Caner,

thank you for your reply.

I have looked at the links again and think that I have implemented everything correctly.

Perhaps I have expressed myself incorrectly. My problem is not related to the connected devices. During configuration, no devices are connected to the SSID for the public spot. I only connect them after the configuration is complete.

I have seen that in the working case (only 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz selected in the SSID) a tun0 interface is configured on the router with the hotspot IP address (CLI → ip addr list) If both radio interfaces (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) are selected in the SSID, this tun0 interface is missing and the devices do not receive an IP address. However, I can see the requests from the WLAN devices on the router in the tcpdump but no response.

As a workaround, I created a LAN bridge without IP and firewall and selected it as the network in the SSID. If I then select the bridge as the hotspot network, the hotspot works on both radio interfaces.

Best regards
Joerg
