Printer IP address does not show up in CHCP lease

Hello, we recently changed over to RUTX14 router for a mobile office. We have an OKI MC853 printer connected via ethernet cable. The printer has a static IP address which i can log into by typing its IP address in, however it doe not show up in the DHCP leases when i am logged into the router.

The reason that i am even looking for it is that we scan to email from the printer to the computer and it was all working before we changed over to the RUTX14 but as soon as we changed, it does not work. The LAN port is blinking orange on the router, i have changed cables and it still blinks orange. If i unplug it i can no longer log into the printer at its IP address (as expected).

Can you offer any help to fix this

Thank you

Hello,

Could you please confirm the type of Ethernet cable connectors you are using? From what I can find, the OKI MC853 has RJ-11 ports, which wouldn’t be suitable for connecting to the router via a LAN cable as the router uses RJ-45 connectors. I might be mistaken, so could you confirm that you are using an RJ-45 type LAN cable (category 5 or higher, twisted pair, straight)?

Additionally, if you haven’t already, could you try connecting your printer to router wirelessly via wireless LAN?

Best regards,

Hi Martynas,
Thank you for taking the time to review my problem.
I am using Cat5 cable RJ45, i am not sure if the printer has an RJ11 jack or RJ45, however it was working well prior to switching out the modems.

I have just managed to resolve the problem this morning.

When i looked on the DHCP leases from the router it has 7 connections plus 1 static. The one static was the computer. I then went into the printer and removed its static IP setting. After a restart it was given a dynamic IP address from the router which i was able to convert that into a static.

I am not sure why this worked, but i am glad it did. The printer is working fine now and it scans to email.
