I have a OpenVPN link running from home and to a remote place, here I am running OpenVPN and is very happy whit it, and the´server is a old laptop…
Now I have purcased a RUTX50 router and in this there is also possible to build a OpenVPN server, so my qustion is: can I reuse the config file from my old setup ???
We have a detailed article that shows step by step instructions on how to configure OpenVPN in our devices. You can definitely use the config file. Just cross check if any necessary information needs to be changed.
Thanks for replying…but
I really need a guide where you show how to connect to my rutx50 at my summerhouse via RMS as I can’t get a static ip from my cellular provider, as I think it is the way to do it
At the moment I use windows client at home and whit 2 click at the mouse I can get access to my summerhouse, via fiber
I just wish I could get the same function whit my Rutx50
If you haven’t got a Public IP on your RUTX then there is RMS, but there are two other options supported by the RUTX. To learn more, read up on Tailscale or Zerotier. These work when there is no Public IP on either side of the tunnel.
If you want to communicate with the Summerhouse AND you have a public IP at home, then you could set up a Wireguard VPN tunnel and send the RUTX an SMS to turn the tunnel ON and OFF, when required. The SMS would invoke a custom script setup in SERVICES > MOBILE UTILITIES > SMS RULES using ‘uci’ or a ‘ubus call’ in the script. This option MAY only work if your home router (not the home end user client) supports wireguard but this would need further research on your part. If your home router supports other VPN’s that are compatible with the RUTX, then superficially, I don’t see a reason that you could not use the same method used above, with them.
All these solutions have been talked about in this community forum, so you can search here as well.
I found this video on YouTube and it just described what i need…my need is also for turning on a sdr-radio as this guy do…ad gess what type of router he use
