Old version Rut955 router

Hi
Totally new to all of this but keen to learn.
I’ve bought the RUT955 router for my van but realised it’s the older version with the dual SIM cards inside the unit. I think it’s 2019 version.
Using it solely for some camping adventures out in the wilderness using a poynting external antenna, will this be a decent enough bit of kit despite the age ?

If it’s becoming obsolete or perform poorly then I’d send it back .

Unit is end of life (EOL) but no reason why it won’t do what you want it to do? Latest (last) firmware for this model was released 2024.09.06 (RUT9_R_00.07.06.16) and that would be the first thing to check and/or update.

Hi

Thanks for responding, my fear would be it’s either slower due to older tech inside or that the router becomes un-supported update wise.

So (EOL) means it’s been superseded? Sorry if I’ve got that wrong.

Hello,

While the RUT955 may be slower compared to newer models, it should still function as expected. However, please note that the firmware for this device will no longer receive updates, and new improvements or features will not be implemented.

If you are looking for a replacement, we recommend considering the RUT906 or RUT956, which are the successors to the RUT955. You can find more details about these devices on our official website: RUT906 and RUT956.

Best regards,

Yes EOL does mean major updates are no longer provided, only critical fixes. Up to a point in time the 955 & 956 were running in parallel, not a lot of difference between the two. The key factor to consider and relative what it cost you, if it does the job you require and it’s not broke then you would need to assess what a 956 might provide over and above a 955?

I had to move to the 956 only because some 955 required firmware fixes for very specific packages were no longer provided for the 955, otherwise 955 still works fine as a general router

Hello Marija, The unit in question is a RUT955

Hi

Thanks very much, I can research all my options now much better informed. Great group!

Hi

Thanks again, to be honest it’s cost me £75 and that’s cheap cheap compared to what’s out there I’m finding.
For my needs I think stick to what I’ve got.

For now :sunglasses:
