NTP Time Service Synchronisation

Hello,

I am reaching out to identify a solution to an issue we are currently experiencing. Following a phone call with one of your technicians, we were advised to open a ticket in order to receive detailed technical feedback.

As part of our operations in an idustrial environement, we have purchased a DAP140 module and an NTP001 module, intended to be integrated into our industrial machines deployed at our customers’ sites.

The expected use case is as follows: configure the DAP140 module in Wi-Fi client mode to connect to the customer’s network using WPA2/WPA3 with certificate-based authentication.

However, due to frequent restarts of our machines (power interruptions), we require an NTP service to synchronize the DAP140 module’s time at each startup.

The issue we are facing is that accessing the customer’s NTP server requires the DAP140 module to already have the correct time. Otherwise, certificate-based authentication fails, preventing any connection to the network.

To address this, we purchased the NTP001 module. However, after several tests, confirmed by your technical support, it appears that the module requires its antenna to have direct exposure to the sky (GPS/Galileo) in order to function. As a result, in indoor or underground environments, the module is unable to synchronize time, which significantly limits its usefulness for our use case.

We would appreciate it if you could confirm the appropriate technical solution to meet this requirement. We are also open to an alternative solution for our case. Alternatively, please let us know if your equipment is not suited to this type of environment and usage.

We are currently conducting tests to select the most suitable solutions for our industrial constraints.

We look forward to your response.

Hi,

I might be wrong but for WPA-eap client time is only needed to check CA cert’s valid after and valid until times. So if time does not go backward too much after restart you should be fine. If I am correct I think that enabling “Save time to flash” in NTP client options might fix your problems.

Greetings,

@Dainius thank you for the input.

@Socamel has your issue been resolved, or do you require any additional support?

Best Regards,
Justinas
