Nord VPN Setup and Settings

Hi Community, I need a little help please.

I have a RUT241 router and its all set up OK and I’ve set my Nord VPN for extra protection.

My question is, how do I set the VPN server to the UK so I can access websites and media streaming (registered, subscribed too and paying for) when travelling abroad without errors.

Not all my devices can have Nord installed so ideally need the router to do all the work.

Thanks

If your streaming provider allows you to legitimately stream UK licensed content whilst abroad, then it doesn’t matter what country your IP is in.

If however you are trying to circumvent regional broadcasting rights attributed to the programmes, then that is another matter, and your provider will take a very dim view.

As I said, I pay for my subscriptions but this is only a tiny part of what im trying to address.
A number of sites and apps I need to access will be impacted when in mainland Europe. Im not attempting to do anything illegal, sinister or underhand but simply operate my normal business as if I were back in the UK. Not everything is about scamming or avoiding paying for things, I’m fully compliant in that area.

If you have a public IPv4 or v6 address in the UK then you can establish a tunnel between the RUT and this address, you’ll just have to enable masquerading on the server’s side.
This way all your outgoing requests will originate from the UK.

I am in a similar situation where I’m out of the UK for half a year or more, and need to access various functions including 8MP security cameras within my home.

Given that I have a Public IP for my UK fibre broadband, I dispensed with the paid-for VPN service and now use a WireGuard VPN setup on my RUTX and my home router. At home I run a tp-link Omada router. Of note is the quote from tp-link. re their implementation of WireGuard …

“… we don’t support v6 yet, setting v6 addresses here (allowed IPs) does not hurt a thing but if you run into trouble when you access IPv6, remove them.”

Easy to set up and WireGuard gives good performance. The fibre to the premises is a 1 Gb symmetrical connection but I suspect I could easily get away with a 0.5 Gb symmetrical connection. The important thing here is that the home connection has a public IP.

For NordVPN, have you tried configuring using the RUT’s built in endpoint for NordVPN? You’ll find it at SERVICES > VPN > OpenVPN > [insert your Client name] > External Services
