New router blocking uploads

Hi. Wondering if anyone can help. I have a RUT 901 router housed in antenna on our roof. I previously had a RUT 950 – the lengths we go to get wifi in our remote location! Since switching Ive noticed on some programs it does not like to upload files. For example, on my Slack app it won’t let me upload/share video to my colleagues, but will allow voice notes and images. Also noticed that it will not upload to wetransfer. Sometime refuses to send large emails etc.

Im not that tech savvy - a friend help me set up - but any ideas what it could be? All used to be fine on the old router. Could it be a firewall setting, or IPV issue, or need of a firmware update, or just a simple restart?

Trying to bump this up as I really could do with a hand! It’s so annoying…

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out.

First, I suggest updating the RUT901 firmware to the latest version, especially if this has not been done yet. Ideally, perform the update without selecting Keep Settings, as this ensures a clean slate and avoids potential configuration conflicts.

Additionally, could you check and confirm the following:

  1. Is the router receiving a strong signal? It can be checked in Status → Network page.
  2. What download and upload speeds are you getting? You can check this using online tools like Speedtest.

If the issue persists after ensuring the firmware is updated and signal strength is adequate, try decreasing MTU size navigated to Network → WAN, then pressing Edit on mob1s1a1, selecting Advanced Settings tab, and specifying a lower MTU value (e.g., 1492, 1482, 1472…) in the Override MTU field.

Feel free to reach out for further assistance.

Best regards,

Hi, thanks for your reply,

Factory reset, Firmware was updated to latest version, MTU value set to 1460 and problem still persists.

Speeds are 35 download (normal for my remote location), 6 upload (I used to get 15+). When reading the upload speed it’s unable to hold long enough to give a firm reading.

Signal wise:
RSSI = -56
RSRP = -87
RSRQ = -11
SINR = 6

Hi…

You write:

It is become too hot? This can be the issue?
Do you try to use/force another DNS, like 8.8.8.8 ?

Definitely not too hot. I’m in UK and the temp is low atm. I’ve not tried forcing a DNS. Do you think that could solve it? How would I go about doing that?

Hi…
DNS changing maybe help… who know?.. sorry my words… it is a " guess who " in the dark…

About DNS

look this … to change your DNS.
sample:

Google DNS server are: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Teltonika, also… have a new firmware for your device:

Are you using WAN Failover?

I’ll take a look when Im home! Thank you

Hi. Over the last few days I’ve tried a few different variables to see what helps.

  • I noticed there may be a bad connection of the wifi cable within the antenna. Ordered a new part, refitted, it worked for a period of time then the same upload issue happened a day later.

  • I’ve played around with different MTU values as suggested. All work, then don’t work sporadically.

  • New firmware updated.

  • Note that my speeds are the same as before with my old router. They do fluctuate and sometimes hover around / cannot settle on a reading during speed test but generally they are OK for my area. 30-35 for download and upload. Note, we don not have problem with download speeds and streaming.

Although the issue happens when sending emails with ‘larger attachments’, it’s mostly when uploading larger files/or videos of screen shares with the Slack app. I contacted their support and after analysing my logs (see grabs) they say “it looks like your upload progressed like normal but then Slack detected the interruption to the connection after 26 seconds of no data coming in.”

They suggest these next steps:
If you have an IT team you can refer to, I recommend reaching out to them to see if they can investigate why your connection to our servers is being interrupted. If you don’t have an IT team, I would then recommend reaching out to Teltonika for similar guidance from their end. During those conversations, you and the team can reference these guidelines for ensuring your network environment is configured correctly to allow proper usage of Slack: Manage Slack connection issues | Slack

If your IT team or Teltonika go through the recommendations of that article and you still experience the issue, please reproduce the issue while recording a new set of netlogs once more so that we can investigate further.

I’m a bit lost. The upload problem is sporadic. It can work one minute and fail the next. Downloading and streaming does not seem to be affected. Do you think everything is pointing to a signal issue? If so, how come I didn’t have any of these problems with my old RUT950? Suppose it could be a faulty new 901 router? But that doesnt explain the sporadic nature of the problem as it does work 50% of the time.

Does anyone think it’s worth trying to put my old router back up and see if the same problem persists?
