I just purchased a second-hand TRB500 to install at my country house in Finland. The nearest towers are so far that I can get “good” signals with any operator (current DNA) only in the 700-900 MHz bands with an external antenna setup. Having browsed through several topics highlighting issues with e.g. 5G band n28 (700 MHz), I’d like to make sure that I have the most recent/trouble-free firmware for the modem module before installing the unit in the attic in a remote location where debugging is a hassle.
The current firmware installed is RG501QEUAAR12A11M4G. Is there a newer one available and if so, can you provide me with the update file?
hi, usually if the device on itself doesn’t prompt you for an update, then usually there’s no need to update. Updating manually, to a “newer” version could potentially cause more harm than good, as the versions available publicly are usually tested for a long time and are confirmed to be stable & working.
Regarding your signal strengths, there could be various reasons as to why you’re getting only “good” signals, and not excellent ones, the towers being far away could be one of them. If you haven’t already, you can try band locking, although you seemed to have mentioned testing this out, judging by the band MHz you’ve mentioned.
Besides that, are the speeds you’re getting good or more on the worse side?
A modem firmware upgrade is typically performed only when it is mandatory specifically, when we know that updating the firmware will resolve a confirmed issue.
In most cases firmware upgrades are carried out only after the underlying problem has been identified. The commands required for this process are not publicly available, as incorrect use could damage the device.
