Issue with modem crashing during speed (fast.com) test on POE power

I’m experiencing an issue with my Teltonika router where the modem abruptly disconnects, sometimes the whole router crashes and needs to reconnect/ restart when I attempt to download large volume of data, especially when I do a speed test, such as on fast.com. This problem consistently occurs and interrupts my network connectivity.

Technical Details:

  • Router Model: RUTx50
  • Firmware Version: * RUTX_R_00.07.07.1
  • Power Source: Power over Ethernet (PoE)
  • Cable Type and Length: Cat5 cable, approximately 8 meters

Troubleshooting Steps Taken:

  1. Power Supply:
  • I have verified the PoE supply is adequate.
  • I tried without PoE injector and connected directly the network cable to 12V
  1. Service and Feature Management:
  • Disabled most other services, including Wi-Fi, to minimize power consumption.
  1. Cables and Connections:
  • Inspected Ethernet cables and connections, all appear to be in good condition.
  • Ensured all connections are secure.
  1. Firmware:
  • Confirmed that the router firmware is up-to-date.

Despite these steps, the issue persists. The router works fine under normal conditions but disconnects during data downloads.

Request for Assistance:

I am seeking guidance on additional steps I can take to resolve this issue. Specifically:

  • Are there any known issues with PoE setups that could be causing this?
  • Are there specific configurations or settings I should check or adjust?
  • Could this be a hardware issue with the router or PoE injector?

Any advice or suggestions from the community or support team would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

There are no known issues that would cause behavior like that. Also, there are no specific settings that can be adjusted since PoE is supplied as Passive PoE. However, it could be a hardware issue related to unstable current supply. Just to confirm, what voltage are you supplying to the device via the LAN port?

Additionally, have you tried speed testing when the device is powered via a standard power supply?

Best regards,
